From the Rough Streets to Easy Street. Welcome to Forever, Sterling (formerly Razzle)!!!!
We renamed him. I felt he needed a more beautiful name. Always liked the name Sterling but officially he is named after Sterling Archer from one of me and Ricky’s fave shows “Archer”.
Still feel really bad for Little B. I brought him a bag of toys and treats when I went to pick up this guy. Little B was featured in the newspaper as “Pet of the Day” twice recently so hopefully he will get adopted soon. Was funny that “Razzle” was in the newspaper this morning as “Pet of the Day”. Obviously, that was sent before they knew I was adopting him. The SPCA features an adoptable pet every day.
Sterling was just neutered yesterday and literally has not even been here 20 minutes so he is pretty nervous. That’s how important you guys are! I dropped him off in his x-pen and came here to update.
A great day to adopt a new bunny. Just saw on FB that today is the Feast Day of St. Melangell, the Patron Saint of Bunnies and Hares.
Yay and a big welcome, Super Sterling bunny sending lots of fast recovery vibes
That’s a lovely photo, LPT. He’s simply beautiful and I’m so glad he’s got you and Bindi as his family now.
Welcome to happiness, Sterling, and (((heal quickly))).
Aww! I love him! Congrats LPT!
Now are you sure we can’t sneak a bug name in there somewhere? Hehe!
If he’s snuggly maybe we can call him “Snuggle Bug” or “Love Bug”. If he would have been brought home in June, maybe we could have gone with “June Bug”.
The shelter has no idea on age. So no idea how much I should be feeding him right now. Is there a way a vet can give an estimate? He’s going for a wellness check-up next week.
Ohhhh and you can pick uppppp. I’m soooo jealous !!!!!
congrats Sterlywerly… you picked a good home there !!!!!
Thanks! I’m totally falling in love with him….just sitting beside the pen watching him…..he’s so chill….Barely here an hour and he’s totally just relaxing. Lounging and eating. And all his little poops have been in the box so far. He’s still kind of tinted yellowish from being dirty and outside but he looks much better than when I first saw him at the shelter. And he will match well with my other off-white bun.
Congratulations! And a big welcome to Sterling!!!
That is so great that his adoption day falls on St Melangell feast day!
Thanks for updating all us impatient peeps. Lol.
So exciting! It must be years since you’ve adopted a newbie.
Welcome to Sterling! He is a very handsome rabbit!
Yes, my last new bun was Miss Olivia. Over 8 years ago.
I still miss her so much. And felt bad being excited about getting a new bun. But there is no bun that would ever take her place in my heart.
Ricky and I were just talking about how different this guy is from Olivia. She was dainty…he’s huge. She was super stressy….he’s super relaxed. We loved (and still love) Olivia just the way she was. Stress and attitude and all. And I will love this new guy for who he is.
And fingers, toes, eyes and legs crossed that a quick bonding will ensue !!
You should never feel bad about that, LPT. The human heart is capable of infinite amounts and varieties of love. Looking forward to loving somebunny new in no way takes away from what you felt for your beautiful princess.
Vienna- I’m hoping too! Not willing to let Bindi go through a lot of stress. Really hoping Sterling is as easy going with other bunnies.
Q8bunny- Thank you so much for your kind words.
Sterling!!!! That IS a beautiful name – and he is beautiful! So big and so white =) Welcome a million times, big beautiful bun!
You shouldn’t feel bad for Olivia’s sake, but it’s natural, of course, after having a lost a loved one. But you know you shouldn’t, because you did everything for Olivia and if she hadn’t left you, you’d have continued to do so. It’s not like you’re replacing her – she obviously can never be replaced – you’re just giving one more bunny the opportunity to know love and happiness.
I feel an urge to kidnap him. That face!
Welcome home, Sterling! You are right handsome!
Welcome home, Sterling!
How about Sterling the Bug? I think he’ll go nicely with Spikey Marbles the Ghost.
He is just gorgeous LPT, I’m so glad he found a home with you!
It WAS the big bun!!
So happy for you. So happy for Bindi. So happy for Sterling Archer!! He’s beautiful and so smushy!! I want to squeeze him so tightly!
Okay I’ll stop. Welcome and congrats.
Oh, I’m sorry. Sterling Archer the Bug. Yep, that will do nicely.

Sometimes, I like to think that the ones that passed were making things open for us welcoming another, for reasons unknown to us. Perhaps Olivia and Lady Sniffles wanted to bring you this big huggable fella. (Spellcheck tells me huggable isn’t a word. Ha! Well spellcheck hasn’t met Sterling).
I completely understand your sentiments about Olivia. It’s really hard to explain to people about how one loves rabbits (or animals in general) and each individually. Each relationship is unique. With a common theme, of course.
Hooray! Congratulations and welcome home Sterling! He’s such a handsome and big bunn and I’m sure he’ll feel right at home in no time at all. Very happy for you
LPT: When I first saw the way you’re holding Sterling, I thought to myself “Genius! So secure and huggy.” And then it dawned on me that there’s no way to try it on Chewie since there just isn’t enough of him. LOL
It sort of like the football hold but up higher. How do you hold Chewie, Q8?
There’s only so many ways you can hold these big bunnehs . Ailís extends all way from my hips up to my shoulders. She’s 5kgs. I’ll never understand those who pick them up by ears only. It’s horrible to do to a little bunny, but with a big one?!! The man who had Ailís picked up rabbits this way. He figured he wouldn’t get bitten like that. Thankfully, a friend of mine showed him an alternative way. They were there to collect 3 rabbits from him. 2 of those were Ailís and her son. They are both REW’s but the boys face is more like Sterlings where as Ailís has a pointier face.
LPT, regarding breed, he looks a lot more NZ white to me, just going by the face. But those eyes are the mystery!
My haris (security guard/superintendent) picked up Chewie by the ears the first time he met him. He was only a little baby and froze but I died a little bit (he scooped him up so suddenly!) but once recovered I showed him how to properly pick him up and explained in my broken Arabic and sign language that it can really hurt and damage the bunny. He then explained that this was how they pick up rabbits in Egypt (where he’s from) and told me that Chewie is the first pet rabbit he’s ever known. Now he loves to watch Chewie’s antics when he pops in to deliver anything.
I rarely pick up my little one since he hates it with the burning passion of a thousand suns, but when I do he glues himself to my chest baby-monkey-style and I support his little bum and back with one arm and hand and his shoulder blades with the other hand (and Chewie usually pushes his nose and face against my throat trying to hide, I think).
since he hates it with the burning passion of a thousand suns
Chewie copes a lot like how Maple did. She usually planted her paws on my shoulders. Sometimes she’d try climb right up there.
Oh, he climbs on my shoulder too, alright… when I’m sitting on the sofa with something good to eat. He has no compunction about trying to open my mouth with his nose to steal a bite of whatever I happen to be snacking on. LOL Hungry orphan / baby bird hybrid.
Olivia really hated being picked up too. I only picked her up when absolutely necessary. I’m hoping with this guy, I can get away with a few selfish snuggle-grabs.
Thanks so much for the warm welcome everyone! And thank you Jersey, your words made me feel better.
I can’t believe how comfortable he is here. And not a single stray poo overnight!!!! He’s like a dream! You should have seen Bindi’s condo this morning….lol. I never thought I would meet a bun that eats faster than Bindi. He is like a super vacuum! Poor guy, food must have been scarce. I wish I knew more about him. How old he is, how long he was on the street….
So, he was neutered Thursday. How long would you guys say I should give before the big meeting of the white buns? I’m so eager for them to meet. Last night, Savana, my kitty, went in his Xpen and in his cardboard box and Sterling did not care in the least.
Will have more pictures soon. The basement light is not the greatest for pics.
Yes, Jersey. Those brown eyes. I don’t think I’ve ever seen a big white bun with brown eyes before. Very mysterious. And Ricky hopped on the scale with him. He’s 9lbs.
Goodness. Ricky needs to eat more!!!
Binky Bunny’s Jack had brown eyes! I‘ve only seen a little white bunny with dark eyes IRL, but it was quite striking.
So, he was neutered Thursday. How long would you guys say I should give before the big meeting of the white buns?
Mmm.. not sure. 2 weeks is normal quarantine period isn’t it? Hormones would have started to deplete by then also. To be honest, I really don’t know! How long had he been at the shelter again?
Q8 I love that saying !! I will remember that!
Sterling looks a white version of Zou but yes with a pointier nose…
You are all saying your buns don’t like being picked up so you only dotit when you have to….. the downside about a huge rabbit that if he/she doesnt want to. Then you cannot!! However much you want to! Their hind legs are just toooo powerful.
So to get her in a travel carrier I’ve found the less stressful way is to get her in a corner and block her ‘exit’ with an open carrier and sort of move in and force her to jump through the doorway….theres only one way to go (and there’s a carrot inside!!!!)
LPT. No not pointier nose. Zou just came up as I reread the post and they have exactly the same shaped head (and nose!) !!! Lol
Jersey- Yes, I will probably wait 2 weeks but I feel bad that he is downstairs all alone. I can’t wait to bring him upstairs. I think he was brought into the shelter on May 11.
Vienna- This boy has no choice. He is going to like being picked up. But every time I have so far, he really doesn’t seem to mind.
It’s okay LPT, you can sneak in a selfish snuggle now and then. I’m just awful. If Leopold is doing something naughty and I can catch him off guard, I swoop in for the grab and give him a big hug. LOL
I meant to say this yesterday: it seems that our rainbow bridge bunnies are helping us pick out our next furbabies. They tend to go for the opposite sex, possibly to have a future cute mate over the bridge in years to come. Like, Spockie found Samantha for me, then Sammy picked out Spike (the Marble Ghost).
So, Olivia likes her bunnies big and white, and found Sterling for you. He’s not a replacement, he’s her future playmate in the fields in another decade or so.
Oh, and what’s wrong with Sterling Silver? (for bug lovers, Sterling Silverfish!)
I thought I posted, but I guess it didn’t go through.
Welcome Welcome Sterling!
LPT – if you have a tip on how to pick up an unwilling 6kg huge clawed power machine without having to go to A&E (me, not her!) then please let me know.
The error possibly was that I used to cuddle her ‘on her back’ which she didn’t mind at all when she was younger (I didn’t know I shouldn’t) and then one day she decided she didn’t like it, and kicked out, and there’s been no going back…. sniff sniff.
Sterling is gorgeous – and cuddly! Don’t feel badly about being excited about somebunny new. Love is infinite; that’s what makes it so beautiful.
Thanks for pointing out that there’s a patron saint of bunnies! I had no idea; that is awesome!
Thanks, Boing.
Sorry, Vienna. No tips. I’ve never had a bun before that liked being held. Bindi will tolerate it but only for so long before he will attempt to hop into mid-air.
Pics from his homecoming:
This was maybe an hour after he got here. Pretty relaxed. He’s got a box to hide in but he never uses it.
These are from today:
Look at how big mys ears are!!!!
Hellooooooo
He was tooth purring and falling asleep….
And a pic of Bindi because everyone loves Bindi. He’s the only one in the house allowed to get away with making messes like this.
=D
How cute! Love the pics of Bindi and Sterling.
Sterling is so handsome, and it looks like he knows just how lucky he’s gotten. It’s fantastic that he’s tooth purring already. Just wait till he meets Bindi
I love the supersized ears! All the pictures are so cute – thanks for letting us see your sweet bunnies.
Attack of the giant bunneh!!!!
LOL With a toy bunneh in the background.
Super cute photos. I can’t wait until Bindi and Sterling become partners in crime.
LPT, I am so happy for you, and for Sterling. What a great life for the big boy. Congrats, he is too precious.
He’s beautiful! And so big! Almost as big as Everly – and she’s gotten so big I’m amazed, she was a baby just the other day, surely? And a bonus-pic of Bindi! Yay!
They sort of are flemmie ears, but I wonder if he’s young and he’ll grow into them ?!! LOL
Vienna- Yes, I’m really curious if he’s full grown. I kind of hop not…because of the amount of food he eats!!! lol But I really have no idea. He might even be much older than I think.
Q8bunny- There’s pretty much bunny stuff all over the house. I have a rather large collection of bunny stuffies.
Thanks, LEL!
Bam- I know…the kid just keeps growing….
Try get some other measurements of him and photos next to certain items that you can compare at a later date. I think he will fill out a little more but its hard to say whether that would be due to normal growth or result of the being neutered and living an indoor life.
One big welcome from two small buns and their hooman to Sterling!
He looks like a true darling. So happy for you guys.
He’s huuuuuge, or she’s tiny…. or else LPT you are a giant !! Very confusing family you are !!! LOL
