As of today, the City of Kelowna has suspended the killing of the rabbits and are looking at getting TRACS involved in it.

              http://www.chbcnews.ca/index.php?name=News&file=article&sid=16723

I’m sorry to say that I”ve done that to an innocent animal.  I hit a squirrel with my car and it tumbled away.  I went to check on it and it was bleeding profusely and couldn’t move its hind area.  I was over an hour away from any sort of civilization and it looked so bad that I doubt it would survive for another 10 minutes let alone an hour.  It was squeaking in pain everytime it tried to move so I ended its suffering.  Now intentionally shooting an innocent animal – that’s a WHOLE nother story.

                what is TRACS?

I understand that they shot the poor rabbit with an air gun…and it flopped still around so they started stomping on the rabbit numerous times and it still flopped around until the guy decided to break the rabbit’s neck.

there is no need to kill ANY animal like this.

same should be done to these ppl!!

and the city paid that company 54.000 dollars?! to do their dirty work??? RIDICULOUS!!

there MUST be another way to solve this ‘problem’.

and ppl shouldn’t be so stupid and just dump their pet rabbits somewhere.

and markus: you did NOT do this INTENTIONALLY

TRACS stands for The Responsible Animal Care Society (http://www.tracs-bc.ca/) which are the ‘rescue’ group spearheading the capture not kill campaign and who the city will more than likely be working with to capture and rehome the rabbits. The mayor seems to be on their side too.

BTW, I forwarded on the links to the reports about the feral rabbit problem to Sonoma City’s Council – just to show them what trouble a few buns let loose can wind up being.

Your intention was to end the squirrels suffering after accidentally injuring it- totally different.
It is difficult to ever get over accidentally injuring/killing an animal.

Admittedly, I did not read the entire article so my comment and opinions are not totally well informed!  The statement that clubbing is humane because it is putting the rabbit out of it’s misery seems absurb. It’s misery and terror starts with the sound of the air rifle and so on. If culling is necessary, they need to start in a humane way from the beginning.
