My youngest bun has finally begun puberty. With that has brought a ton of energy and a little bit of aggression towards our other two boys. A simple “no” or “dont do that” normally stops him from whatever he was trying to do (usually mount) to our other buns. He usually very obedient and has/had free roam time with them but they are in different cages until he gets snipped
Anyway, today was very weird. The trio was out and running around the living room like normal during the night while i do my cleaning in between rolling around with them. After about two hours, Badger, the bun in question, decided to try and claim my oldest, Blue. Badger sprayed him, then tried to hump him. Blue is the alpha and does not take it, but hes polite about it…. unless the other bunny continues. So Blue wiggled him off a few times and i didnt think anything of it. Badger usually stops after the third wiggle at the latest. Today he didnt stop. He tried to get on Blue again, causing Blue to whip around and nip in his direction. Badger tried yet again, and by this time i was only a few feet away from them (theyre always within eyesight of me while free roaming, so when i saw this starting i began walking towards them). When Badger tried that last time, Blue lunged and they started to circle. I was already on the move towards them, so it ended almost as fast as it started. Both buns are perfectly fine; fur did not even get pulled. I pulled them both away and pet them till they both calmed down and licked one anothers faces. I put them in their own cages afterwards
The weird thing that happened is that Badger then sprawled and began chattering. He was breathing very fast (we are in a heatwave here, the AC is on 24/7 but its not cooling it down all that much; it is still about 72F in here though. on top of that, he did just start a scuffle and was running around for a few hours before that), and chattering/grinding his teeth. He does this on occasion when he is happy for no reason, but given the context of why he started to chatter this time leaves me a little stumped. Is it something i should just check up on when i see him doing it and tell the vet when we see her next week (blood work for Badger), or is it something where i should consider making a sooner appointment for him to be checked over?
Blue is doing fine, too. He feels as though he won (i would say so too) so he is happily sprawled in his cage grooming our middle bun, Bombur. The two have been bonded for several months, both neutered, and get along like husbuns together
