I seriously need some help. The obvious answer could be right in front of my face but I’m doing a crash course here with bunnies.
Ok, here is a picture of basic lay out where the grates are:
On the back right hand side next to the fencing is my entertainment center/fireplace stand.
3 feet to the right of the fencing, facing the stand is a queen size bed.
Her “must have” claims of territory are inside the cage except my bed. Hubs is out of town working but says the bed is NOT going inside the cage, lol.
She claimed the corner in the back left of cage as potty area. Her vent is under the window (there is also a vent under the bed she likes so could possibly be willing to give up the window vent- not sure) but my bed seems to be uncompromising to her. She doesn’t really pay any attention to my bed until I go to sleep at night and then she decides she has to sleep there too. This seems to be very serious to her. I know the whole thing sounds a bit wonky like, “just stick her in a cage and ignore her” (so I can get some sleep) but seriously this rabbit communicates and stuff, she’s interactive and has a language and whatnot. I’ve never even had a cat or a dog this communicative, it’s almost like another person. Except it’s a rabbit. (I’m questioning my sanity just typing that.)
Other than this bed issue, she is a really good rabbit. I could let her free roam and access the bed and my room no problem at all except I can’t have 5 of them free roaming at this stage and I don’t see how I can train her to get in and out without the others being able to do the same as they get bigger.
So that’s the lay out.
Last night I go to bed and turn the lights out- which seems to be the signal for “get in the bed”.
She goes bonkers. Cage rattling, destroying everything inside cage, throwing everything around, thumping her feet and pooping all over the place. Thumping is not normal for her- that’s a pretty serious move on her part.
I call my son in middle of the night and he tells me to ignore her so she can learn to not expect to go to bed. Yeah right.
At 1 a.m. she comes flying over the side of the fence and not only clearing 26 inches up but over 3 feet out landing on my back. Then when I look up at her and mumble, “oh great”, she very calmly eyeballs me and lays down. Fine, go to sleep and we can deal with this tomorrow…..NO. About 2 hours later its LICK LICK LICK (wake up) and then, “Oh you are awake now?” HAIR PULL HAIR PULL (follow me). I sit up in bed and she hops down immediately and stands in front of cage to go back in. Repeat. (Babies and litterbox seems to be why she wants back in.)
I don’t know what to do or how to set up a safe and efficient area for them and especially in a way that still allows her to sleep in the bed. Caging around the bed is where hubs draws the line.
Help?
