So I rarely see Cookie poop outside his litter box. But when it comes to his peeing, he will pee anywhere that he rests whether the flooring is absorbent or not. I didn’t mind the constant accidents before because if it was on hard flooring I would easily wipe it up and if it was on a blanket it would get washed right away since I would do laundry regularly. However, it is getting really hard to have to do Cookie’s laundry on such a regular basis. Especially since my schedule will become extremely busy next year. Cookie lives in our garage at the moment and is content where he lives. Later on however, my mom promised that Cookie will eventually move into the house. Might mean soon or might mean three years. Who knows? But anyway, in order to have any hope of Cookie moving in the house he has to at least do all the peeing in his litter box. So any suggestions on getting Cookie to pee in his litter box?! Is it possible?! I don’t mind accidents every once in a while.
Is the bolded literal? If you mean he pees all the time every time he isn’t active where ever he is, that sounds like incontinence and is a medical issue.
For the rest of this post, I’m going to assume you didn’t mean it literally, especially since that’s not the impression I got from your second post mentioning corners.
Litter training is easiest when you meet your bunny halfway. When we first brought Porky home, he didn’t pee in his litter box, he peed on the third floor of his condo. We moved his litter box to the third floor of his condo and he’s been perfect at home ever since.
The next thing is smell. Just wiping up accidents isn’t enough. You need to eliminate the pee smell from the spot you don’t want him to pee on, and move it to the spot where you do want him to pee. Wipe up the pee with something that won’t hurt your bunny and has no scent of it’s own, like a paper towel. Place the pee soaked item in the litter box, this moves the pee smell into the litter box where you need it. Clean the spot on the floor with vinegar to eliminate the smell from where you don’t want it.
I wonder if the odor controlling aspect of carefresh litter is actually putting your bunny off. If it doesn’y smell at least a little like pee,it won’t smell like where he should go. I know many bunnies do fine with carefresh, so it must not completely obliterate the smell for them. Remember, bunnies can smell fainter odors than we can. However, sinceyou are having a problem, maybe a litter without odor control would be better till he get’s the hang of it.
