He has only nibbled on a raisin he was moving a round quite a lot, but now he’s resting. The vet did not give me metacam because she said it has been linked to renal failure. He got the 24 hour pain killers and if he’s not eating he has to go back to the vet. Not happy about the pain killers but I’m going to research about it.
My boy didn’t start eating until nearly bed time that night and didn’t drink for three days, so his not eating right away is normal. Odd they wouldn’t give you any metacam, even my vet who gave me strict “only use it if you need to” instructions gave me some just in case.
Sounds ok so far… The 24 hour pain med he was given is probably Metacam. Do you have a syringe (1ml-3ml) you can fill with water and put to his mouth to see if he takes it if you push it out slowly? Water with little a but of apple juice may work as well. If he is not eating a bit, and drinking some, by tomorrow morning (which he probably will be), see your vet again.
Good luck & please post updates!
Rooting for you & Moogle!
He’s still not eating but I think the poops on the cage floor are good. He ate his breakfast salad before I took him, so I think everything is still moving. About to see if he wants any water from a syringe
Ahhhh! He just hopped in the litter box and ate a strand of hay! He went poop too! Then he asked for pets for the first time since he’s been home
He also ate two raisins. Is that okay? I’m going to empty his litter pan and clean up poops in his cage so I can continue monitoring that.
Eating anything the first night is good. It’s if he doesn’t eat tomorrow you should call the vet.
Woo hoo! Go Moogle! Sounds great!
Good boy Moogle! I don’t think there’s anything that makes a bun parent happier than seeing them eat hay and poop after surgery! I think you can let him have whatever he wants to eat for tonight, as long as he’s eating.
My bun was only given a 24 hour pain killer at the vet and I didn’t take any home, by the time the 24 hours was over he was back to normal so I have my fingers crossed that things will be the same for Moogle!
Thank you so much! You have no idea how much I appreciate your support. I have been a wreck all week. I could barely sleep last night. There are four poops now so I think I’m going to try to get some rest. Getting up early to get his salad ready and see if he will eat.
Oh, also, does anyone know why he is flicking his front paws a lot? He’s acting like they are wet but they are not. Then he grooms his face
Did they shave part of his front paw? Rufus was shaved on his paw up close to his body so they could put a drip in and give him fluids. Maybe they did that and it feels funny to him?
I can’t see any shaving but if I try to touch his paw he starts flicking them again.
Update: I went to take a shower and I stopped to look in and he picked up a piece of hay and ate it. I also just watched him eat half of a small leaf of romain not sure if he’s drinking and I’m worried because there are no poops since last night. Now he’s sitting and staring at me in his sleeping spot.
I’m wondering if I should let him out in his small hall way with a baby gate. He normally only eats after playing, then he sleeps the rest of the day.
I don’t think he is supposed to be running about too much yet. I was advised to keep my boys in a pen for at least 48 hours. I guess it depends how big the hallway is…
I think monitoring his drinking is important. Is there any water missing from his bowl? Have you tried the syringe? How does he seem otherwise? Is he moving about looking like himself?
If you are unsure- call your vet and let them know what is happening and they will advise you.
Good luck!
He drank from the syringe and I think the water in his bowl has gone down. He is eating tiny amounts of hay and half his salad, but still no poop since last night.
Mine always flicks his paws together before he is about to groom his face….Have you tried a little bit of juice in the water yet? That might help.
I’m going to add some juice now. Still no poops. Going to call the vet
Make sure you check any hiding areas he might be hiding his poops, if he is too sore to always go to the box he might have picked a dark hidden corner to potty in. You can also try giving him a tummy massage, early in to a blockage it can help, just avoid his incision area or tugging on it.
As for flicking his front paws and grooming his face, they use some sort of oily stuff on them during surgery and he probably got it on his paws as he was grooming himself. It’ll come off in a few days.
Both my bunnies had some sort of gel put in their eyes when they got fixed – to keep their eyes from getting dried out under anesthesia. Maybe he’s trying to clean off the gel? Zeus did the exact same thing post-neuter.
It’s good he’s eating and pooping a little, I know that kale is always my go-to green when trying to convince a bunny to eat. Most seem to quite like kale.
Waiting on the vet to call back. I didn’t find any poops but I think he ate a smelly one! He’s still not drinking a lot but after Zach got home and he finished off his salad so I’m going to keep watching and see what the vet says
So, would it be a bad idea to use gas drops? That’s what I usually use if there are no poops, but the rabbit is usually not eating too…

Simethicone is pretty darn safe stuff, it’s one of those things that you can use it even if it’s not gas, and it probably won’t hurt. I’d say give it a try.
Erg. The vet said to give him another 24 hours and if he still hasn’t pooped, bring him in. She said he may have been producing “night feces” and eating them before I see. Which I saw him chewing once, but waiting that long makes me so nervous… Erg.
Okay, I will try that
I gave him the gas drops and I’m waiting a bit. I think he may be tooth grinding though, so I think I’m going to call the vet up again and tell her that.
Quick recovery Moogle! Let us know how he goes.
How is he acting? Is he lethargic and just sitting still? Is he up and about? The eating a bit sounds good, and drinking a bit is good too. Hopefully when he starts eating more he will poop! Wishing Moogle lots of poop! Good luck & Please post updates!
He was moving a lot all day, but now he’s loafed… Still no poop. Going to take him to the vet in the morning if there is still no change

I have never been so happy to see poop! Finally after a full day of syrenging water, gas drops, and pushing veggies and hay, there is a pile in the box. I made a short cardboard litter box for him. I massaged every hour and cuddled him. He loved the attention but I think we are both happier now. Going to update in the morning. If he is still pooping, I’m going to leave him home with Zach to monitor. I’m getting a migraine so I’m finally going to rest
If he’s eating greens he’ll get a little water from that, too. Especially if you rinse them in water and don’t dry them off before you give them to him.
(((((Moogle)))))
That sounds great Jessie! Go Moogle!
There was more in his litter box this morning, so I’m going to head to work and Zach is going to watch him today. He’s very hyper and really wants out to play. I am confident that we made it over the hurdle… Finally.
That’s great! Congrats!
So happy to hear Moogle is doing well! He’s lucky to have such dedicated parents. Good job!
Wahoo, great news!
This forum has been so helpful! Reading Moogle’s progress will help my nerves for the Ziggy gets neutered. The vet I’m going to does all the rabbit’s in my city’s humane society so I’m confident he’ll be ok. I think…
I have trust issues with vets after losing one rabbit after her spay. So, I wouldn’t worry too much.
LOL I just got the funniest text ever. Zach said, “Can I put his normal litter box back in because he is throwing the other one around.” I asked if he meant he was throwing the litter and Zach said, “NO, he is literally launching the entire thing across the cage and stuff is flying everywhere!” So I said he should be fine and that he could switch them.
So I asked how he was doing and Zach said, “He’s being a little ****head.” (Sorry if that is inappropriate even with stars). And I said “Good!”
I guess he is trying to rattle the bars to get out and throwing everything around including his water bowl YAY FOR BAD BUNNY BEHAVIOR! I feel much better. Funny because I promised god last night that I would deal with pee/poop everywhere, chewing of all my things, and holes in the carpet if he would just keep Moogle safe… Guess he wants me to keep my end of the deal. Totally worth it.
Aw… That’s great news! Even when they are making trouble they are still so cute! So hard to get upset at them. Is that Moogle in your profile pic?
Aww. He’s just tired of being locked up. It’s good he’s feeling better. I don’t have cages (my two are free roam room bunnies, Powder is cage phobic) so I had to keep getting up to check on them when they were healing lol Stickers wanted to start doing binkies after three days, so it was stay up all night checking on her for me. So, don’t feel bad about worrying about Moogle, we understand being the paranoid bunny parent.
LOL, I love the new update. Bad bunny means he’s feeling better!
Sounds like he’s right on schedule for post-neuter bunny craziness! Now you get to feel the full effects of hormones for a couple of weeks. Rufus wasn’t too bad before he got neutered but he was a terror for three weeks after.
So happy to hear he’s feeling better!
Ashe is my profile pic. She is actually my second rabbit. I only lurked while I had Crickett (he started the bunny madness). I also had Korra, who was Moogle’s little sister from another litter. She died after her spay, which is why I was freaked out when Moogle could not poop. I’m about to start my hour drive home to spend a whole weekend with my buns so excited!
Also, thank you to all the bun parents for being here the whole time. I really think I might have lost it yesterday without ppl
who actually understand the situation. My mother and other people kept trying to comfort me but it made me more stressed because they kept saying stuff like, “Well, dogs and cats…. After being neutered.” I was just like rabbits are not cats or dogs! But I just let them think I felt better
That is fantastic news! I was similarity pleased when Tofu started throwing things around his own in protest during his post neuter confinement. I am really happy for you both!
