I recently bought a cute Holland lop from the pet store last weekend and unfortunately they don’t even know how old he is. Now when I first brought him home, he would love climbing up on me and resting. Lately after building him an exercise pen Everytime I hold him in my lap outside of the pen he’s been peeing on me. The bunny at best is two months old so too young for neutering. He never used to pee on me and is normally very good at using his litter box. Any help?

First you said you don’t know how old he is, then you said no more than 2 months. Are you sure he isn’t a little older? Boys can start becoming hormonal around 3 months, so it isn’t completely out of the question that he is getting close.

As for the peeing, it could be marking. Or he could be feeling more secure and simply wants things to smell like bunny. Or it could be a combination of both.

In most places, rabbits need to be 8 weeks old to even be sold at all. Which would mean at BEST he would have been 8 weeks old the day he arrived at the pet store. Since he was climbing and resting on you when you first brought him home, I’m guessing he stayed a little bit at the store and had become accustomed to different people and handling. Let’s call that a week. Then you’ve had him a week. So he’s probably at least 10weeks old. Chances are he’s closer to 3 months than 2 months. Have you looked to see if his testicles have dropped? I bet he’s hormonal.

The people at the store guessed around 6 weeks said he looked too small to be 8+ weeks.
The one time I finally was able to flip him over successfully I was unable to see any testicles descended.
Would it just be safer to assume he’s getting closer to 3 months and it’s bestto take him to the vet?

You could just take him for a well-bunny check, which is a good idea anyway. The vet can probably poke around a little better and give you a time frame for when neutering would be appropriate.

Yes, I agree. It’s definitely a good idea to get your rabbit vet relations going, a wellness check would accomplish that and give you the information about neutering.

Thanks all. Took him to the vet and it looks as though he’s still too young for neutering.
All in all he seems healthy. Just the occasional peeing on me 🙁

He’s still a baby. It’s normal for babies to have accidents from time to time…

Thanks. I sometimes forget he’s a baby since he took to his litter box training so quickly
