Hi!
A shower curtain probably isn’t the best idea, it’s not very thick so if your rabbit has accidents it will get to the wood. We user black mats that you can get at Home Depot. Also she may chew on the blankets which is not good for her.
You’ll need to bunny proof your house, be prepared for chewed baseboards and you’ll have to cover electric wires with plastic tubing.
Also remember that just because she has a whole pen to run around, it doesn’t mean she doesn’t need to be let out. She will still need at least four hours out of her cage every night.
You need to bring her inside to train her. You cannot train her outside in the cage she is currently in. The sooner you get your poor rabbit in from the cold and the snow the sooner you can train her.
i see that you’re getting the 24” tall pen. i’d recommend at least 36” in height. i know my rabbit would have no problem getting out of a pen that’s only 2 feet tall.
Okay well this is the pen I believe we are getting

And for snowy, can you give more info. about the black mats? And what can I use to put over them?

I can’t find the link right now, I’ll look later… However I don’t put anything over them They have hay in their x-pen that they can sleep in, but they seem content to not. The mats don’t hurt their feet if that’s your concern.
You really REALLY need to bring your bunny inside immediately. She really cannot be outside in the cold weather you described last time. She’s a living animal and really this is not something you can mess around in. Just think about if the situation were switched and you had to rely on your bunny to leave you outside or bring you in? Which would you need? To be inside. You REALLY need to make this your first priority.
Like Sarita said, you cannot litter train her until you bring her inside. She NEEDS to be brought inside, please do this for the sake of your bunny. I feel I speak for a lot of people on the Forums when I say we are ALL really worried about your girl and her being left outside in the cold. Bring her in and start litter-training her.
If it’s your parents you need to convince, show them the posts and replies on this thread so they can also see how urgent and important it is for you to bring your baby bun girl inside. Please please please!
The ‘Ware’ x-pen that you posted is very small. I have it and use it to block off wires in the living room. When my bunny was in the pen, I noticed that it was not enough room for her and she got frustrated. Cages or housing intended for ‘Small animals’ don’t cut it for housing.
You’ll also need a large cat sized litter box with rabbit safe litter (wood stove pellets without accelerant is fine, care fresh is fine as well), lots of hay on hand as that is what makes up the majority of a rabbit’s diet, a place to hide (a cardboard box), and toys to stimulate their minds. Empty toilet paper rolls, willow balls, etc make good toys.
For the sake of your bunny, the only way she will adjust to indoor living is to get her inside ASAP. She deserves to be inside in a warm house and receive lots of attention. Rabbits are not low maintenance pets and require lots of attention as they are extremely social animals.
I think you have plenty of information – please bring your rabbit inside as soon as possible. The enclosure you have her in outside is not adequate – this is not difficult to do and the sooner it it done the better it is for your rabbit.
Also, if you will look on your prior posts you will see the proper pen to get that has been posted and it’s not the Ware pen that you have linked too – that is NOT adequate.
Once again, this is the proper pen:

As other’s are saying do not wait! For now just bring her hutch inside and put it wherever you plan to put her pen. She is a living animal and if she remains outside in those temperaures she will die or become extremely ill. I’m sorry if that seems harsh, but that is what will happen. It seems useless to wait on something that is as important as that. By buying her you commited to taking care of her as a pet and to do that you need to bring her inside.
^ Agree wholeheartedly with Snowytoshi — please show this and the other links to your parents so they understand how important all of this is — bringing her inside and having an adequate sized cage.
What is wrong with this pen? http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0…HYR9LMBZ1H I thought it was big enough. And I will be putting one of these as one wall
And I live with my grandparents and my mom dad and sis, and my grandparents want nothing to do with my bunny, so my bunny has to live upstairs with my, and her hutch weighs about 100 pounds, so I dont think it is possible to get it up stairs. And now I feel really bad.
And I will be buying her pen and I have the budjet of max. $50 to get a pen.

BabyDaisy, that should answer your question. Please show this topic to your parents and grandparents.
I’m going to say something and it is going to sound harsh and I’m sorry for that: Your rabbit is a living animal that feels pain and has emotions. By owning one you are taking on the responsibility of ensuring its happiness. Keeping a dog or a cat in a condition that it will die in is neglect and that does not change for a rabbit. I realize that you love your rabbit, but the best thing in this scenario may be to find a friend who can keep your rabbit indoors until you can get her a pen. The only other options are to convince your parents to bring her inside by showing them this thread or allowing her to suffer. None of us can choose for you, but those are your options. Please do what is right.
Now I feel really really bad.

Now I feel really really bad.
I’m sorry. I am trying to point out the reality of what is happening and as I said you need to make a choice.
I know, It is okay But my family is not poor, but not rich, and we are just trying to find a cheap pen for my bunny.
No one wants you to feel bad — we all just want you to understand the needs your bun has and she only has you and your family to fulfill them. It’s really important that your parents understand what it takes to truly care for your bunny the right way. All of us understand that this isn’t just you — but your family — who you have to discuss all this stuff with also but if thats the case then you need to do whats right for your bun bun and show all these replies to your parents so they understand the importance of this also.
Many people don’t realize everything that bunnies need (I mean, I didn’t until we really got into our first one) but your parents allowed you to have this pet so I’m sure they will understand and help you when you show them this thread and it’s responses on it.

However the concern for me is how much longer will she sit in the cold? Please show this thread to your parents and discuss letting a friend keep your rabbit indoors until you can get a pen.

I think it looks fine, but others may have different opinions.
my bunny will hopefully be inside on dec 31, i’ve been looking at pens with my dad online.

Glad to hear it! In the mean time make sure she has enough coverage from the wind and that she has enough bedding in her hutch to keep her warm.
at night I take a box big enough for my buny to get inside of it and put a tee shirt and hay in it so she can sleep in it
If money is an issue — convert the hutch you have now into something better. Have her the hutch with the door left open and a smaller x-pen for her to run around in. This increases the space she has to run in while allowing you to save money at the same time. If it has legs, you can simply take the legs off or leave them on and create a ramp for her to go up and down. Then you can give her the space UNDER the hutch to run around in also! That right there will increase the size of the pen you have for her to play in.
PLEASE get this rabbit inside. i’d personally rather see her in a tiny cage that’s safe and warm. it’s not even about the size of the cage/pen right now, it’s about getting her in before she becomes seriously ill.
I agree with Sleepy on this – better inside and safe than outside.
Agree with both Sleepy and Sarita — she really should not be kept outside until the 31st. By that time, she could be sick and need medical attention. You really NEED to bring her inside. It’s dangerous for her to be outside.
I have no pen to bring her inside, the ony pen I would have is her hutch, or a cage about her size

As sleepy said, better inside in a tiny cage, then outside freezing.
well the cage is just big enough to for her to fit, but not room to even move.
I suggest converting a bathroom into a temporary rabbit cage. The floor should be waterproof and clean already, lay down some newspaper for bedding if you don’t have a litterbox yet. The whole bathroom will still be usable, you’ll just need to keep the door shut so she doesn’t escape!
I believe you mentioned that her hutch was approx 100 lbs? You and another person should easily be able to get that upstairs and into your room. It might be bulky and frustrating, but I’m sure it can be done.
If your family won’t let you bring your bun in soon (and by soon I mean right now, not tomorrow or Saturday or for new years ect.) then you might want to consider re-homing her.
Also, why not spend the night out with her? I’m serious, pack up a canteen, sleeping bag (or a blanket), pillow, and a flashlight. Sleep right next to the hutch and enjoy your buns company! It’s cold? Scary? Might be attacked by a wild animal? Frostbite? Hypothermia? It will show you your buns perspective on life, and it might show your family how serious you are about your bunnys welfare.

Indeed Sam, my mom and I moved a hutch into my room all by ourselves. We don’t have them as a living space anymore, just as a cozy hidey hole for Joshua.
I absolutely LOVE Sam’s idea. Your bunny really cannot wait.
Of course you cannot sleep outside with your rabbit…I think you are on the right track – the sooner you get your rabbit in the better you will feel and so will your rabbit. Just make this your ultimate goal as soon as possible. Don’t worry about purchasing harnesses or different food – just continue with your plan on bringing her in.
Okay thanks sarita!Today or tomorrow we will be going to thrift stores to look for a pen before we buy one online.my mom said if we cant find on at the thrift stores, once they get thier pay checks we can get one online. And not one will I ever think about re homeing my bunny. My bunny like the cold I think. When I bring her in from the cold and put her on her blanket, she decides to lay on the cold floor insted.

Please bring you rabbit hutch inside or keep her in the bathroom. All of us have suggested ways you can do that and you need to bring her inside today. She does not like the cold, she is choosing to lie on a different surface. One of my rabbits sleeps behind the toliet which is not a particuarly warm spot, but that does not mean he would be happy if I out him in a hutch and stuck him outdoors. Indeed he would be sad, cold, scared, and lonely. Your rabbit is undoubtedly feeling those emotions right now, you need to bring her inside. As I have said she is a pet, she deserves to be treated like one.
I know she is a pet,and she is a happy pet because she loves me and only lets me pick her up and snuggle with her. I am treating her right because I have loads of blankets covering her cage to keep her warm.
I completely agree that your bunny will be better off inside and I am happy to hear that your folks are on board with bringing her in. I hope you will be able to find a pen tomorrow. I don’t know if you use Craigslist.org where you are, but sometimes you can find good deals there too.
You do have to take some precautions when you end up bringing your bunny from outside to inside. As the drastic temperature from the cold to a heated house can cause some issues with a bunny getting overheated. How cold is it right now outside? What temperature do you keep the inside of your house? When you did bring her inside, and she chose to rest on the cold floor, it was probably because she was trying to acclimate. You will actually have to provide her with cooling options so she doesn’t get overheated inside during the transition time. I would suggest allowing her to access to the cool floor. You can also provide frozen water bottles that she can snuggle up to (but also have the choice to move away from), and keep a few in the fridge so that you can have frozen ones available at all times. Acclimation may take a day or two or even up to a week. Just watch her and see how she does and if she stops snuggling up the frozen water bottles and becomes more active in her environment, then she is becoming acclimated. It also might be a good idea to keep the room that she is staying in cooler than the rest of the house (shut or close up the heating vent to that room a bit) and then over a week, just allow more warmth in.
I is about 40 or 37 out now. and I normally keep it about 70-75 inside.
oye! Yes, that’s chilly out there. So, yes, probably best to go follow some of the acclimation tips I gave.
Okay thanks everyone!
