Went to the vet tonight for Max the cat, not Jessica the bunny.  I asked about the red pee and the vet wants to see her this week b/c she had her spay in late June and she’s concerned about the red pee.  The vet tech said that it could be a UTI, kidney stones, or even complications from the spay.  I just feel so overwhelmed w/ vet bills….

It turns out that Max needs to get his toe amputated and a possible "tumor" removed from his ear.  The neuter for our upcoming bonding boy, Leo.  And now Jessica!  In addition, I’m leaving my f/t job for p/t work so I can complete my dissertation.  Sorry to vent….but anyone have any red pee input?

hmmm, well it sounded like from your other post that her urine recently changed because of her diet. (which is very common) How long has her pee been red? I can understand your vets concern though especially if she was just recently spayed. If she didn’t act on this concern and then something happened to Jessica, that would be terrible.

However, my understanding is that when blood is in the urine, for example due to a UTI, is that it is in small amounts, and harder to see.  But then again, I am not a vet.   Here is some information from the House Rabbit Society regarding red urine http://www.rabbit.org/journal/3-1/red-urine.html    The whole article discusses red urine and then actual blood in the urine.

But since you trust your vet, and again because Jessica was recently spayed, then it’s better to be safe than sorry.

            Keep us updated. .

She tends to maintain a pretty regular diet of these potential "red" veggies.  These tend to be some of her favorites…so I tend to stick w/ them.  The only dietary changes I have made is including more herbs into her diet (parsley–italian and curly, lavender, basil, etc).  The red pee began this weekend, on Sunday.

When I saw the vet last night….even after the vet tech gave me the "bring her in" from the vet, I asked to speak to Stephanie, the other vet tech that also has bunnies.  Stephanie sided w/ the vet, so I feel ok about her decision.  I started reusing the white carefresh to keep an eye on the pee color since I noticed the red hue.  It is still reddish today (Weds).

PS after I got home from the vet last night, I sat on the livingroom floor w/ the cats and Jessica jumped up on the couch to sit w/ my husband.  She was a total lover nudger w/ him.  He’s sooooo lucky!
