        Hi everyone, hope you all had a wonderful thanksgiving.

        This morning when my boyfriend and I awoke we found Luna’s hair ALL over the place. We’re 100% sure it’s hers coz of the colour. At first we thought perhaps there was a fight in the cage, but when Jonathan picked up Luna to check her for scratches etc, we found her mouth full of her own hair. I was worried about her swollowing it and getting a hairball so we pulled as much out of her mouth as possible, but oh boy there was quite a bit. She is 13 months old and unspayed ( I got laid off work so we had to postpone the trip to vets )

        Is this normal? I was thinking perhaps it might be a phantom pregnancy but Shadow, who is a little bit older than Luna didn’t do this.

          Oh Yes – This sounds exactly like a false pregnancy – Coco had two before I had the $$ together to get her spayed. She would pull the hair from her belly and dewlap to tuck away in the corners…and I once saw her do it and hold it in her mouth to spit it out later.

          Since the spay, I have not seen her do this again.

            that does sound like that might be what’s going on… i’m sure not every unspayed rabbit will go thru this, some might go thru it once, others more frequently… all of your others buns are altered, right?

                Luna is no longer pulling her hair, she’s back to her usual mishievious self.
                Luna did the same thing as Coco, she mainly pulled the hair from her dewlap and belly. She even pulled a few tufts of hair from the other buns too. Clyde let her know real quick that he was NOT going to tolerate that and grunted at her.

                  False pregnancy is *usually* brought on by mating without becoming pregnant-although they can have one never being around males though! Generally identified by making a ‘nest’ and pulling hair two weeks after coupling; A real pregnant rabbit will make a nest the day before or the day of;

                  Everything I’ve read is ‘go ahead and let them play ‘house’ it’s harmless’
