        Hi Everyone,

It’s 2am and I’m coming up with these questions- lol. But I have been wondering for a while if lops, with their big furry feet, are predisposed to thumping. The reason I’m wondering is that Nellie, my fuzzy lop mix, thumps quite a bit. She just does it once or twice, if one of us walks up behind her or dare to go near her and Lude’s “bunnymoon suite”- a cardboard box to be exact. I think it’s adorable.

However I have never witnesed my MiniRex, Ludicrous, thumping. He does have an exceptionally calm disposition- could that be it? Or is it just that those dainty little feet can’t manage a thump?

Oh trust me. Mini-rexes thump. Fiver does it when he is extremely displeased. Sometimes back feet, sometimes front…and then usually a little whine to let me know I am REALLY in the doghouse.

I do find that rex bunnies seem to have a totally different mindset than other bunnies though. Fiver’s personality is so different from Mimzy (holland lop) and Pip (lionhead X) and there’s days I could swear he understands every word I say…whereas I have to speak ‘lagomorph’ with my other two.

I recently found my lop will thump when he is ill too. Odd for an animal that tends to hide it’s illness out of a long cultured self-preservation instinct.

I think it depends on the bunny. My bunny Charlie only thumps when there is danger…the other one, Layla thumps when ever she’s annoyed or not getting her required amount of attention.

Also I think it means different things for different bunnies.

              ^^^ab-so-lute-ly.

but to answer your question, i find my lop Max is more of a thumper than my mini rex Meadow is.  Meadow will thump pretty rarely.  Max will thump when he’s upset about most anything.  Max will thump in association with me doing something he does not approve of, like lifting up the maze to say a quick hello.  i’m glad for this, that Mead does not thump as much b/c she does have a mild case of sore hocks, so i prefer her to not thump.  Max with his big ol’ fluffy feet, can thump all day long and i doubt he even feels it… lol.

I thinks it depends on the bunnys personality-

I have never heard Cotton my Mini Lop thump.  But Penny my Holland Lop thumps to show displeasure at a noise, movement, etc.

My mini rex Lola definitely is top thumper at my house. When she’s really mad and I’m lying on the couch, she’ll come flying over, leap on me and thump me on the chest before running off. It’ll wake you up for sure!

                    Defintiely depends on the bunny.

Has anyone else noticed lionheads are crazy-thumpers?? Kahlua thumps all the time!!

in think it depends on the individual, not the breed.

Cotton doesn’t thump much.  Ruby thumps more often then Cotton. Cotton thumps when something is not right or he is scared. Ruby when she is annoyed.

My lop has NEVER thumped and I have had her almost three years I think god times flies, and my new baby harley had her for about 2 months I think also has never thumped at me so maybe ti just depends on the personality etc. it would be interesting to compare more and see

Meadow had a thump fest the other night. normally i do a full clean of their pen on fridays, but with the holiday weekend, things were changed up a bit. i didn’t get to do my thorough cleaning friday, i had to wait until saturday night (at 9pm.) well, 8-8:30 pm is pellet time… but pellets weren’t served up until about 9:45 when i was done with the pen. i herded them in their cleaned-up pen, gave pellets and closed the door. i went to finish straightening up in the kitchen and a few minutes later the bunny room erupts in a symphony of thumps. repeatedly… i walk in there and they’re both sitting looking at me. i walk back to the kitchen, same thing, as soon as i’m gone the thumps start again. i couldn’t tell who was doing the thumping, so i walked back, stood in the doorway so i could see them but they didn’t notice me right away. Meadow is running everywhere… stopping every few seconds to thump. then she runs to the closed pen door and sits there thumping and staring at me. okay, Miss Meadow. so i opened the door and they both hopped out. i guess they weren’t done hanging out in the maze.

needless to say, it was a late night for us all. Mike was ready to get into bed a little bit after that (in general we retire pretty early for young folks on a saturday night!) and he says, “oh i thought you put them to bed already?” “uh, i tried, but they weren’t ready for bed so i let them back out.” that resulted in a funny look from Mike… but oh well. ;o)

lolz…Don’t you just hate it when the men don’t seem to understand that the ‘children’ need a little more quality time before bed?

Our feral kitty has decided that 2 AM is time for her to start making lots of noise in her bedroom so she will be let out for free time. And this tends to set the bunnies off as well. Fiver has taken to tossing his litter box as soon as Kitty tunes up, and that starts the other two to copy him. >.<

Tonight she’s out of luck. Forty below zero forecast for the evening and into early morning. Brrrr! 0_o (Okay WHOSE idea was it to move to Alaska again??)

Not hard to see who wears the pants in our households, eh, Beka? ^_^

I was wondering how you have a feral kitty in Alaska! So, she’s an INDOOR feral kitty? How does that work?
