It sounds like Tallullu has found a rabbit savvy vet, and so I am sure Boo’s spay this Tuesday will go fine.   But it can still be hard to give our little cute fuzzy faced bunnies over for any surgery.

So join me in wishing Tallullu and her bunny Boo peaceful pre-surgery, and healthy healing post surgery.

Sending best wishes Tallulu and Boo and hoping all goes well (as I’m sure it will).

Sable is meeting his vet this morning and should have a date soon as well.

as a post-op bunny owner…., (ooops, to clarify i mean Lollo is post op….) i can say it wasn’t nearly as bad as i thought it was at the time. so i hope all goes as well for you, i think if you’re confident in the vet it makes it easier and less stressfull. best wishes to you both but perhaps a few more to Tallulu since she’s going to be nervous and Boo won’t have a clue what’s going to happen!

Thanks everyone for your well wishes, Boo’s op was really really early this morning i got her back about an hour ago, Vet said op was straight forward and she is definately a little girl and all her bits were as they should be.

She is alert from the anasthetic but she is definatley not her self. I feel so sorry for her she just looks so sore. She is in her cage with some towels and lots of nibbles, The only thing im worried about is the upstairs neighbours have nicely decided to move flat this evening and are making A HELL OF A NOISE!! boo seems ok though.

yip she hasnt touched her pellets but she had her fav veggie bok choi with her for when she first woke up…. the nurse said she ate one whole leaf, she has been nibbling a bit since I have had her home but not much, I expected that though. I have a syringe and some medical feed ( the name escapes me) just incase. I have a feeling I wnt get much sleep 2nite. Her check up is 2morro morning.

I’m so glad to hear the spay went well.

It likely is Critical Care, so keep an eye that she might need to be assist fed if she’s not eating enough on her own.

Assist feeding can be a bit challenging – this article has some helpful suggestions:

                          http://www.rabbit.org/faq/sections/medicating.html

Did they send Boo home with some pain meds like metacam?

They didnt give me any meds but I have to go back first thing in the morning before the surgery opens so she can have her wound checked and given more pain relief if required. She is quite comfortable she isnt grinding her teeth and she is lying in the meat loaf position. She is drinking alot more than usual but I suppose its a good thing to be hydrated, she hasnt really consumed much food just a little nibble of hay and bok choi. Thanks very much for the link hopefully I wnt need to use it.

I’m glad she’s drinking, staying hydrated is important. hopefully she started eatting more too.

let us know how the post-op appointment goes today!

Post op appointment went well, she was alert when I went to get her from her cage, she is mobile but still stiff. The vet was happy with the wound I have to keep an eye on it though. She got another dose of pain killer and a little injection to make sure her guts stay motile. She is eating more and has passed a few fecals so the vet is quite happy and we have to go back in a week.

Don’t worry Lpuff.   Orange juice will be fine.  And by the time the 21st comes around, there will be many who have gone through it.   We’ll be able to offer happy healing vibes too!

So, do you have a good vet?  Did they give you any pre-surgery instructions

Oh, good. I’m glad to hear she’s eating more.   It is always harder on females – surgery is more intrusive.

It so great to have a good vet to know what to do about appetite and pain when and if it really beomes an issue.

I bet Boo will be feeling much better soon.

Hi all just wanted to say a massive thank you to everyone for their help and advice and especially for all of your well wishes, Boo has made a full recovery she has been up to her usual mischief and even managed a small binky today. She is eating normally and her poos are fine, The only slight problem is that her right leg ( when facing her head) is a ittle stiff but i prseume she is still a little sore.

As soon as she is fully recovered she has a date with some boy rabbits at the local shelter so hopefully she will find a nice boyfriend and she will forget all about her op.

For everyone who has surgery scheduled for their rabbits i wish u both all the best and their is really nothing to be too worried about. Thanks again from both Boo and myself x

                                          Yeah!  What kind words!

Well it’s so good to hear she’s doing much better.  Keep us updated on her leg.  How is it doing now?   It isn’t abnormal for a doe to feel sore on a one side.  A stiff side/leg isn’t completely abnormal, but make sure to keep the vet informed about it, and keep us updated about her leg.

Her leg is totally fine now, it was just the first 3-4 days after her op that she was sore on it, I was terrified that the spay would change her personality but I knew that she needed it done and I would be selfish to keep her the way she was. But its actually made her a more cuddly bunny and I’m really glad I went through with it.
