Digby and Yoshi are doing really well with bonding, and it won’t be long before they’re sharing a cage. For those of you who have “condensed” 2 bunnies into one cage, do you recommend giving them one big litter box they can both fit in, or 2 smaller ones so they can have their own?

Yoshi seems to like laying down in his litter box, however Digby doesn’t have room to stretch out, so he’s only in there to eat, poop and pee. I seem to remember seeing a couple bonded pairs in the shelter that seemed to like sitting next to each other in their litter box, so I guess right now I’m leaning towards getting one big one. Any thoughts?

My two bonded lops share one huge litter box. They enjoy sitting next to one another, eating and pooping. They are never far away from each other. I would suggest getting one large litterbox and then watch and see how they react.

we have two medium size cat boxes (each one is about 12 by 16 inches). one is a just litter, the second is a litterbox/hay trough. both get plenty of use. i removed one of the boxes after they bonded and there were poops everywhere. i really think mine like having more than one box, even tho they both use both boxes equally… we have a double xpen set-up (it’s about 4×8 feet, so having two boxes does not intrude on their space in any way…

My 2 bunnies enjoy sharing one litter box. But make sure the one is large enough for both to fit in. I have watched mine push each other out of the box to use it! (yeah it looks funny, but they dont like having accidents

I’m actually going to condense to one soon. After our rabbits bonded we used two but eventually one of the boxes has evolved to a dig box/pull and push toy…very messy.

I find it rather amuzing that you posted this – at my own expense. I am currently facing some major territorial wars going on between my two rabbits (Bonsai & Daffodil) that I’ve had together for 5 years. They suddenly decided to create a sea of pee and poop right next to the one litterbox they used to use and have had to start with bonding them all over again (lucky me). So, some me stress bonding in the car later, I have given them two litter boxes to give each their own personal safe haven. So now you may be asking what this has to do with you? I would suggest starting with two litterboxes. If after they are both sharing a cage, they both go in the same box and can share the same box, I would condense it down to one big box they can both hop in and share at the same time. Otherwise I wish the mopping up of an enormous sea of pee be no one else’s fate.

My 2 buns live in a 8×6 foot shed and they have 2 large Litter trays between them. They aren’t HUGE Litter trays but that can both fit in them and still have room to move around. I recommend Having 1 large litter tray but have 2 large ones are good too as you don’t have to clean ten out as often because the poops and pees are spread out. If you have a Litter Tray to small their little bums may hang over the edge and wee will go everywhere! Hope this helps x

I use an under the bed storage container as my main litter tray for my trio – although at the moment Greebo has that to himself and the trio are sharing 3 small ones because I moved their territory and I needed something that worked better in the corner and was practical for the area. They are happy with either. Smaller ones are slightly easier to clean but if you keep on top of cleaning it doesn’t matter much either way.

They also get a separate one for their water bowl so any spilled water stays in the tray – and they go through stages of peeing where they drink. That’s just a small one because they don’t spend heaps of time in it.

I actually have been wrestling with the litterbox question – I’ve been having the devil of a time finding one that’s the right size to reach corner-to-corner in my bunny condo! I might just punt in the end, do what Beka27 did and get two, we’ll have to see.
