My sister and I were cutting the two buns’ nails, and accidentally, we got the quick of one nail. It was pretty bad, running down. We stopped it with cornstarch, and it’s stopped bleeding (as far as I can tell.)

Is there anything we can do to make him feel better? We shredded some carrots (Yes, I know very sugary, but we thought he could use the energy.) and gave him a treat. Is there anything else we can do? It was a lot of blood, kept running pretty bad. D=

Yes that sounds scary.  Bun should be fine you got the bleeding stopped. She may be a little sore there but she is going to be ok.  Hmm cornstarch  flour and stypic powder are good for those problems.

Yeah my first time not hitting a nail after 1 yr and 4 mos of owning buns. But oh did I get them b4 that. It just comes with experience.  Took me long enuf to get it right.

Just feel bad. I’ve had this pair for 6 years, and never gotten a nail so bad. =(

I recently decided the buns nails needed trimming and I used to be able to get it done after much scuffling and football holds and the like. But this last time, I could hardly hold either one still and I think I almost nipped one of Pip’s nails on her right front paw down too far. It wasn’t bleeding, but she kept shaking and washing it and she let out a tiny yelp when I did it,
I felt bad, so I’ve decided to wait to trim. I’ll either swallow the charge to have my vet do it or wait till they’re easier to handle. Something was really setting them off that day.

Good thing to know about the cornstarch. That won’t hurt them if they swallow it, right?

                Yep, cornstarch’s perfectly safe.

Maybe have your vet teach you to do it? My vet taught me ages ago, and been doing it ever since.

Perhaps a bunny burrito would help if they’re that jumpy.

EDIT: Also, any suggestions on how to clean him up? He got a bit of blood and cornstarch on his belly. X_x Or should I just let him clean himself up?

I use diluted hydrogen peroxide to clean up the blood and to prevent it from staining the fur.

Woo it’s scary when you get the quick, I’ve done it once and live in fear (Ok, not like crippling fear where I can’t leave my house or anything heheh) of ever doing it again. Cornstarch is perfect for that, good job!! I’d do as scarlet suggested to help clean him off a bit

Quicks tend to bleed a lot but it isn’t anything that the rabbit is in danger of as long as you staunch the bleeding. It is one of those things that frighten us more than the buns. But you’ll just have to deal with the bunny butt for a bit.

I would also direct this member to the thread about the Pedi-Paws, some good info there thanks to ScarletRose!
