Instead of being out first thing in the day, as I usually do, last night Fiver came out for play just before I was going to bed.

He did his usual helicopter spins and binkies and just in general enjoyed himself.

I plopped down to watch the News Hour (the Palin drama is enough to keep me entertained for hours) and Fiver came out his door, did a dead bunny flop. shoved his nose down into the bedsheet and closed his eyes, stretching his legs out behind him and relaxing completely.

I was floored. He stayed right there. Only brought his head up when there was a noise he couldn’t identify and would keep his eye open for a bit…but for the most part, he was totally at ease right there.

If I didn’t have to worry about where he would go had I left him out and what he would get into, I’d have let him sleep right there all night.

Good thing I didn’t as about 3 AM I had an issue. (posted it in the Lounge for everyone to enjoy)

Does anyone know, those who have rexes or mini-rexes…is this normal behavior for this breed of bun? I mean, I was thinking I was going to have months of problems getting him to trust me, but, well…I think almost we’re there already.

Though I’m not ready to clip his nails or clean his glands or anything.

As you know I have the vast experience of exactly one bunny – a mini rex. So, not knowing how other bunnies adjust, I will say that there was never a question of bonding with me or comfort. Just a totally friendly, relaxed bunny from the get go. Maybe they are that way because they have that tempting velvet fur that says “pet me right away, don’t stop.”

lolz, Thanks Pam. Sometimes it only takes one. ^_^ The next bunny who gets you for his/her momma is going to be SO lucky!

Oh, and I noticed the tail wiggling thing. It really is another one of those min-rex quirks, I am sure! He does wiggle-wag it at me when I first open the pen in the morning to clean him up. So doggy like! ^_^ But cuter! He still flips his ears at me every once in awhile, but I think it’s more of a greeting now than a slap and “Don’t touch!”

He got all cuddly with me again last night. I think he’s getting ready to take off from the bed though, he was getting up to speed really quickly and zooming in circles like he was trying to break the sound barrier. It’s making me nervous. 0_o

Mimzy just watches us from his hutch with this, “Hey, what about me?” look. *sigh* I spend time with him too, but I think he really wants to come and binky with his new little friend.
Going slow though. Not going to screw up another bonding.

It was funny, this morning we all had to go to town early, so I had to put Fiver away early last night. He was having none of it. Normally I can just touch his flank and he’ll shoot for the door of his pen, then a tap on his bum and he’s in. Last night, he was like, “Nuh-uh! I’m not done having fun yet….WOOT!” and off he’d go again. xD I finally tempted him with a Craisin. He grabs the bag with his teeth and tugs it if I don’t open it quick enough. Heck I’d reached for a tissue and the plastic wrapper crinkled and he jumped up from his flop like a firecracker had gone off and raced over to see if I had treats…lolz…I couldn’t stop laughing.

Anyway this morning, my alarm goes off and it didn’t wake me up, but Fiver’s thumps sure did. He’s almost right next to the radio and he didn’t like hearing that come on at 6 AM.
Mimzy was all happy and bouncing in his pen because Mommy was FINALLY up at the same time he was! Then that little mouth starts chewing on the bars of his night pen looking for treats. I gave him lots of head pets instead, as those are non-fattening. ^_^
Pip still just glares from upstairs. >.> lolz….
