hershey just thumped at me! i’m scared! hehe

she’s been thumping at me a lot recently.

and now she has her back to me..its very obvious that she’s insulting me or something!

i’ve read about this bunny behaviour but never seen it…now I know what it looks like!

is it because i’ve been playing on my laptop and haven’t pet her tonight?

just thought i’d share this new behaviour… how can i get back into her good books?

Oh dear, Naz, you have been negligent bunny-slave, haven’t you? Imagine not paying attention to Hershey every waking moment! No wonder you received the dreaded bunny back. (Our local high school has a pirate mascot, and there’s a tee-shirt slogan that says, “The beatings will continue until morale improves.” Replace “beatings” with “thumpings” and you have a slogan for bunny-slaves everywhere.)

First, look beyond to obvious issue of your preoccupation. Perhaps a water bottle is empty or a toy is wedged somewhere and she needs you to retrieve it.

Second, if it is just about you, the way you smooth things over depends on the individual bun. Some will respond to you mirroring their actions. (Turn your back on her and groom yourself. She might come around just because she can’t stand being left out.) Other buns respond quicker to you groveling for forgiveness. (Present toys, treats, and invitations to play or groom. Bribery is perfectly accecptable in the bun world.) Be patient and keep trying. Bunnies are easily offended and carry grudges. (“Oh, so the miserable excuse for a mammal has finally looked up from that toy and wants to play? Humpf! It’s going to take more than that to make things right with me. Wait..is that a raisin?)

Finally, just remember there’s no point in trying to show her who’s the boss. She already knows!

I get the thump when my nose rubbing is not as up to par as Coco feels it should be.

She uses it to send the “Pay attention and get back to taking care of me” signal.

Which is different from the “Something startled me and I am thumping to let everyone know that I am aware of possible danger” thump…

LOL I’d be concerned if Smudge DIDN’T thump at me at least 4 times a day. Hers are usually “How DARE you take my food bowl out even if you were just trying to fill it” “I am NOT ready to go back in the condo for the night, I don’t care if you need to sleep” “PAY ATTENTION TO ME” and my favorite which gets multiple thumps “HEY YOU in the fridge! Get me something out of there” lol she knows the sound of it opening and thats where parsley and mint come from!

Kahlua seems to thump with absolutely no reason…Cannot figure it out for the life of me. I’ve caught her several times, by herself just thumping away LOL

As you may have read, Rupert gave me a very good thumping the other night. Last night I was trying to get back in his good books. I gave him treats with no tricks required, and then when he laid down I laid near him and set my arm up against his body -to try to be like a bunny being beside him. He kept nudging me away-very angrily. I tried to give nose pets and he gave me the bum!! I am so STILL in the ‘bunny house’ LOL
