I was wondering if anyone has tried the “bunny dating” before getting a partner for their current bun? I am looking at getting a friend for buttercup, and I was thinking about bringing her to the shelter with me to visit the little guy. Both buns are fixed. Their adapton fee is only $5! And the little guy is already fixed! But I digest.

Has anyone tried this? Did it work?

I didnt try this no, but what i did do was go and cuddle the bunny before i got him then i came home and let hopscotch smell all my clothes and i petted him before i had a shower or changed clothes, he wasnt at all aggressive towards me (since i smelled of another bun) and he did lick my hand which i took to be a good sign, and it was they bonded almost instantly.
I think it is an excellent idea to do this though, i mean you wont be with the bun 24/7 right? but buttercup will be so i think its awesome she has a say in the matter, also it will mean bonding is easier if they get on well. Keep us posted!

I did nothing but dates for two months with Maryann. It was very helpful although it mostly taught me that Maryann doesn’t like dating. But it did help me find a bun that she’d at least tolerate a little bit.

Dating is THE best way to go with getting a friend for a bun. You do have to realize though that a date in a neutral, strange place will be a lot different than when you get the two of them back to your bun’s place.

sometimes it really depends. like Markus said, dates did not matter much with Maryann… she hated everybun. other buns can get along even without dates. be prepared that the bonding process will take at least one month, regardless of whether or not you do dates. it’s very rare that they would get along from day one. what is Buttercup like, can you tell us more about her personality?

I did bunny dating- went to a foster bun house on Saturday. My bun, a male miniRex named Ludicrous, had 5 dates. He is still very hormonal 2 weeks after being neutered, but he was still able to pick out a beautiful wife- a fuzzy minilop named Penny. The bunny bonder was very experienced and calm and knew just what she was doing. She correctly judged that while any of the buns Lude met could be a match for him, Penny was his favorite. I found it VERY helpful, and after seeing how different buns interact, I’m extra glad I didn’t just bring home a strange bun my Ludicrous. He is so in love with Penny, and she seems quite adoring of him as well… so I am one satisfied fan of bunny dating!!! Go for it!!!!
