I have read on here that it’s better for their digestive systems if they forage for their food rather then get their pellets from a bowl.  I’ve been hesitant to do this because I was thinking that if I did this how would I know that Tucker got everything?  But tonight I decided to try it.  I was in there rearranging the pen anyway because I wanted to put a water bowl in there along with the water bottle since she likes water bowls better but I wanted to keep the bottle there in case she spills it and is without water overnight.  Anyway, so I decided to sprinkle them about.  I put about half of them where her bowl is though..so that even if she can’t find them she still has some to eat plus her hay.  I also moved the hay to the shelf since the litter box is down below with a big bowl of hay there anyway for her lounging and nomming enjoyment.

Plus I moved the smaller downstairs litter box up to the top shelf.  We’ll see if she likes it there.  I have no doubt that if she doesn’t it’ll be knocked onto the floor by morning and I will have a huge mess to clean up.  That will be my signal that no..she does not approve.  Most things on the top shelf are not approved by Tucker.  Things get tossed off their left and right..so we’ll see how this goes.  I got the stink eye for about 20 minutes straight because I put some toys up there as usual and she was pushing the one block off and it got stuck behind the hay basket which is new to there too. The hay basket is clipped to the side so she can’t budge that.  She was NOT so happy.  I swear she was saying “Look what you did.  Now there’s a block on my shelf..and it’s STUCK because of you”  I bet by morning it’s gone hehehe.

LOL she’ll figure one way to get it off the shelf. Let us know how the foraging goes!

LOL surprisingly it’s still there!! And so is the litter box and it has fresh poops in it so I guess that’s a winner!!  The only thing tossed from the shelf is her stuffy bunny but that’s normal..she’ll toss him around when she gets mad that he doesn’t groom her back hehe.

ALLLLL the pellets are gone.  When they were all in a bowl not even all of them were gone.  Even the ones that I put in the tunnel that I thought she’d never find are gone   And by the look of her pen this kept her busy last night   There’s some toys thrown around of course and her toilet paper roll with hay has been tossed around and is in the other corner…but no litter mess..no massive shredding..nothing!! It looks like foraging definitely gave her something to do all night and prevented destructo bunny

Regarding the water bowl thing, use a bird bowl so he can’t knock it over. You can hook it right over the bars under his water bottle and it will catch excess drip and provide another way to drink. I do this for Frankie and it’s worked out very well.

Well I’ve tried two kinds like that…one was an actual bird bowl where it kind of hooked in over the side and was all one piece…Tucker gets underneath it and pokes her head up til it spills. Then there was one that had a ring and the bowl went into the ring and the ring was attached to the pen…she did the same thing with that one only that one made MORE of a mess.

I’ve been looking for a cheapish one that screws on although that seems to be a lot of trouble to get on and off each day…but so far so good, I have a ceramic crock for it and she hasn’t messed with it at all

Haha, sounds like a curious bunny. What I do is keep a bottle of water on top of Frankie’s cage to refill the bowl with when it’s running low so I don’t have to take it off except to wash it.

LOL yes she’s definitely curious! and stubborn too.  If the bowl doesn’t work out as it is I’m going to try something like that with having the bottle sitting there.  So far though still no troubles, we’ll see later though lol this is still in her quiet time of the day when the kids are active and she chooses to sleep and ignore their nonsense lol
