This is Godiva, recently rescued from a shelter with a big bite on her back.  You can still see the shaved area on her back in some parts of the video.  She is a beautiful black lionhead, amazing that someone would dump an animal like this in the wild and expect it to survive.

This is my first try at a video for a specific bunny.  These things still take forever to do.  Godiva spent the night with us last night (she has a vet appointment nearby this afternoon) so I used the time to take some images of her.

She’s so pretty. I don’t understand people dumping animals (any animal) in the wild either – how can the wild be better than a shelter? At least in the shelter they have some chances of getting a home or rescued.

Believe it or not, this is the thought process behind dumping animals in the wild:

If I dump them in the wild, they’ll have a chance of surviving (or) they’ll simply live wild whereas if I bring them to a shelter, they’ll be killed after 30 days.

Not saying it’s intelligent, just that’s the reason I have heard.

I have heard that remark as well, Markus. What they don’t think about is it would be better to be put to sleep (quick, painless) than to starve, suffer after being hit by a car, or eaten by a wild animal. And a lot of the time, I think that’s just an excuse. They don’t want to have to face the staff when they’re taking an animal to a shelter. Sorry, enough ranting, I’m on cold meds and feeling a little loopy

She’s a beautiful bunny. If Mocha was a boy, I’d seriously consider her. Wish you luck finding her a deserving home.

The thing to understand is that they don’t believe that their pet will starve, be hit by a car or get caught by another animal. They believe it will be smart enough to survive like all the wild types they see out there. Believe it or not, this is the worse type of anthopomorphizing. They actually think that an animal will be as intelligent as a human (as in smart enough not to step in front of a moving vehicle – let’s not get into which is smarter, man or bunny otherwise my bun will be the one entering these posts).

I apologize if I came across as pessimistic, Markus. When I hear things like that, I always tend to think the worst. Thanks for explaining.

I agree Mocha – it is better and I do believe sometimes people are ashamed as they should be about their actions.

Marksudark I know what you mean too – actually sometimes a rabbit is smarter than a human in some situations :~)

Godiva was adopted this weekend!   She ended up getting permanently adopted by her foster home.
