I am trying to prove a point to my mom (who never thinks rationally btw, she has mental illness). She is arguing that Medusa should live in a cage because she could get sick and get diarhhea and soil the carpet. We all know this is ridiculous.

Does anyone know, can diarhhea in rabbits ONLY be caused by too many veggies? I read in the House Rabbit Handbook that is what diarhea is usually caused by. I just thought I'd ask so I can use that as an argument with her.

Dhiarhea in bunnies can be caused by a gut upset  - that can come from too many sweets or carbs or from an unfamiliar veggie.  It can also be caused by illness - usually bacterial or parasitic.   Generally the same kind of things that give people the runs - unfamiliar food or a touchy tummy or germs.

I think stress can cause it too, like moving or loss of a bonded mate.  When we do our adoption shows, we sometimes get a bun who will get poopy butt (mostly poorly formed and uneaten cecals) and make a mess.  This happens just from the stress of being in a strange place and being handled by strangers.
