Is it normal for a baby buns fur to change color?  My friend got a rabbit around the same time we did, so he is probably under 10 weeks old.  he was a dark grey almost black color (they named him Jet), but she just called me to say it’s changing to a whiter grey color….  but it’s just on his body itself, not his head, legs or tail….  He just went last week to the vet for the first time and everything was normal.  Any info would be helpful thanks…

You know Edson has changed colors too. He had this cute little black dot of fur on his ear that has become a long rectangle! Some of the fur on his back has changed colors too – in fact he has kind of a stripe that he never had before.

Yeh, it seems they change color when they grow and shed…I don’t think I’ve ever read that a color change could be linked to an illness (although I’m not a vet) so I wouldn’t worry!

Carrera, my minirex, as she grew she changed from just a plain all over brown to what is called “Castor” color. She is a brownish red color and has white around her eyes and tummy that was not there when she was a baby.

And like others have said, they tend to change color when they get their winter fur, even if they are house buns they will still shed w/ the seasons.

Kramer changed color from when I got him to when he was an adult. When he was a baby he looked just ridiculous, he was all white with random splashes of a brownish-red, and then like a “racing strip” of gray down his back! Eventually the color of the racing strip grew all over him and now he looks like a little chinchilla.

Our little castor mini-rex, Aeryn, went through a permanent color change after she got her first winter coat.  Kind of like Hedi’s Carrera, but not as dramatic.

Bailey’s had all sorts of weird markings come and go, from racing stripes to a backwards number “4” on his back, to this thing on his back once that looks either like a Mickey Mouse head or a Jolly Roger skull-and-crossbones depending on your point of view:

i think hopscotch may get darker because i can see the fur on his back going dark brown at the moment he is a sandy kinda colour but i think he may get a patch of brown on his back, i think this is normal dont worry!

I have a feeling that my Mini Lop Cotton is going to change color a bit as she gets older too.  I have tried to research it but I really dislike the purebred color/standards websites as they are all related to breeding and not very informative.  I have not found pics of young shaded Mini Lops to be able to determine what color she is- only pics of adults.  So all I know is that she is shaded- but have no idea what color of shaded.

Not that it would really make any difference, I love her the same regardless.  But it is nice to know her “color name” for when I am bragging about her.

I think it can also be a seasonal thing – so their winter coat might be a different shade from their summer coat.

And Now she is really dark…First it started with darker spots around her bum, that almost looked like she had some west spots…Now it’s allover. I loved her original color, but I think she’s gorg now too. Course, I’m biased!

                              DUH!

I THOUGHT Spockie was a cute little gray and white bunny when I got him (all his siblings were black and white, so he stood out)

and then he got darker….and darker…..

Well, so did my hair, so I can’t complain.
