I own 3 rabbits that are 4+ yrs old and one has ear mites so the vet treated them all with Revolution for Cats and my nutered male lost hair around his ears along with diarrhea then full GI stasis which we’re battling now. The vet is telling me that this isn’t caused by the Revolution and to continue with the 4 week regiment but I’m not sure I believe this to be the case and am worried to continue the doses since he didn’t have mites to begin with.

Anyone else have experience with this medication or any advice?
Since the search on the forum is down I apologize in advance if this is already posted.

Revolution is considered very rabbit safe, but there are of course always individuals that can react to stuff that most rabbits tolerate.

The hair losscould potentially be an effect of a mite infestation itself, but the upset GI tract is less easily explained. The problem is there aren’t any really good alternatives to Revolution except ivermectin, which is a compound that belongs to the same family of anti parasitics. Any compound containing fipronil is deadly toxic to rabbits and must not be used. Permethrin has been known to cause adverse reactions in some buns and Advantage is not effective against mites.

I dont think I’d risk keeping him on the Revolution regimen seeing that he is in stasis now, especially since it never seemed like he had ear mites to begin with. Has the rabbit that had ear mites improved?
