Moonpaw used to pee on the couches so we’d have to tip up the cushions to keep him from jumping up there. As time went on we started to forget to put the cushions up but he didn’t do it any longer. This weekend we had friends visiting and Moonpaw was very chill and social, didn’t seem bothered at all, but pretty much as soon as they left he started jumping up on the couch to try and pee on it and it finally clicked that he always jumps on the couch to pee on it when we’ve had people over and he stops doing it after a few days, presumably when the memory/smell fades. This may be something common with bunnies but I never made the connection before and now that I have I can just preemptively stick the cushions up after we’ve had guests.

Oh, that makes sense! Invading strangers come to claim the bun’s sofa (yes, it is his sofa, everything in a bunny household belongs to the bunny), so, obviously, bun must reclaim his property ???

I agree — that makes sense! Wick pees very consistently on his other parent’s belongings, bed side, and after he is on the couch for a long period of time. The urge to rescent is so strong, haha.

I feel like a big part of having a bunny is figuring out a system to work around potential problems and this will be a new tool in our system, and maybe someone else has a bunny who does the same and reading this will make them go “aha, that makes sense!”
