Hi – I adopted my bun 2 months ago. I noticed today that her brown/orange fur above her nose and between her eyes is starting to look much darker, almost like a black spot of fur. It’s also gotten a little shorter and softer. A few days ago that she’s starting to shed (so I’m combing her daily), but I haven’t seen any other parts on her change color. She isn’t uncomfortable when I touch it. I haven’t seen her scratching it, either. No changes in behavior or GI function.

Is this something that happens during their shedding period? Could it be something else?

        Thank you!

That does sound like it’s the new fur growing in, given that it is shorter there. If you hold some white paper behind some of her orange/brown fur, can you see if it has darker tips? If so, that would be why the fur growing in appears darker at first.

Great idea – thank you! Yes, it appears that the tips of some fur are definitely darker.
