My baby (she is like 2 or 3 but she is still my baby)Pepper is getting spayed on the 27th. I am bringing her in the day before for a check up and she is staying the night there becuase my vet and I decided that is what would be best so she kind of has time to settle in and not be as stressed. I have talked to them about anesthesia, medicine, and post spay care. Everything is perfect and we are very prepared. I am just worried sick about losing her. I’ve read so many stories about people’s bunnies passing during or after the surgery. Does anyone have advice on how to make this as calm as I can for her and not be worried? I trust my vet so much and I know that she is in the best of hands but I am still very worried. Thank you so much! I will update y’all when I pick her up to tell you how it went! Tysm!

They didn’t say they were going to fast her right? Buns shouldn’t be fasted. Otherwise, my only best suggestion is to keep yourself as busy as possible the day of surgery

I’ve never known rabbits who were taken in the day before surgery and spent the night at the vet’s office. To me, that seems like it would be stressful to the rabbit, being in an unfamiliar place, away from her humans. I assume there won’t be any techs there overnight to watch her and make sure she is eating well. Maybe your vet has had success with this method, but I think a rabbit would be more comfortable in his or her own home, the night before surgery. I hope I haven’t made you feel more worried by saying all of this, it just seems out of the ordinary to me.

Good vibes for your bunny to do well and recover quickly from her surgery.

Thanks! No I am not going to fast her, my very even specifically told me not to so I know that that’s good. My vet recommends them staying just so she can make sure that they are perfectly healthy and there is nothing wrong that is hard to see in a half-hour check up. My bun doesn’t get stressed very easily so we decided that this would be best. There is almost always a vet there because they have animals that stay there after a surgery and before very often (she will stay in the small animal room or in a room by herself, not near any dogs or cats) so she will not be left alone. I am just trying not to worry but I’m so paranoid, I hope it all goes well??

Spaying and neutering is very stressful! Mostly for the humans because they are the ones who know what’s going on. I think your bunny will be okay but be sure to ask your vet what their rabbit spay and neuter survival rate is. It should be at least 95%, and if any bunnies passed away what the cause was. (allergic to anesthesia, rabbit was sick, etc) My vet only had one bunny pass away ever and she does 2-3 rabbits spay/neuter a week. I hope I didn’t make you even more worried! Good luck.
