I bought a bag of yesterday’s news cat litter after hearing that it’s okay for rabbits to use. But I bought the fresh scent since that’s all the store had, I’m just wondering if I should return it and get the unscented one from a different store. Any advice would be much appreciated! Thank you !

I have never heard of cat litter that is bunny safe, also bunnies have sensitive noses and the scented litter isn’t good for them per my bunny vet.
Bunnies also like too have hay in their litter box too chew on, so you must use litter that is safe for them in case they eat some of it. I only use white plain recycled paper, since it’s recycled it’s also fluffy so my bun has comfort when she does her duty.

Yesterday’s News is a recycled paper cat litter and I used it with my first bunny. It’s perfectly safe, but I would definitely try to find the unscented. If you have some sort of agricultural store near you (Agway/Tractor Supply if you’re in the US or something local), I find that horse stall pellets are a very cheap, very efficient litter. They are pine pellets which are only made safe because they are kiln dried. There is a toxin in pine that can hurt a rabbits respiratory system, so it’s very important it’s been dried. If you want to stick with Yesterday’s News, it’s totally safe and works really well! I would just look for the unscented version. Chewy for sure carries it and it should get there within 2 days.

Thank you for the info BonnieBunny, I didn’t know what type of cat litter it was, I have always seen regular cat litter that is clay or some other type of absorbent that isn’t good for bunnies.
              Thanks again.

It’s always safer to get unscented as bunnies have very sensitive respiratory systems

Some cat litter is ok to use as long as it’s not the clumping type. Wood stove pellets are a great and affordable litter that many bun owners including myself use – might be something worth checking out!

I love Yesterday’s news litter! I would agree though to get the regular unscented bag. I’ve always found that it controls the odor very well and does a great job absorbing. It’s obviously a bit pricier than wood stove pellets, but I prefer the almost non-existent paper smell of yesterday’s news compared to the pine/wood smell. Just my opinion though!!

Yesterday’s news unscented is a great litter but any scented litter is not bunny safe. Horse stall bedding is a great less expensive alternative to cat litter. Can get 40lbs for $6 at Walmart and even order online and free shipping to the store.
