Hi! i have a female Netherland Dwarf (Muffin) that i got in January and she seems to not want me to hold her or pet her. Every time i try to hold her she squirms out of my arms and/or bites me. Ive tried doing many different techniques to bond with her like go in a small room with her alone and let her come to me, and she does come to me but once my hand touches her she zips away. I’ve also tried laying on the floor and just petting her so she can get use to my hands touching her. She doesn’t mind being around me in general though, when im walking around my room she will kind of follow me a bit to see what im doing. She isn’t spayed yet though because she isn’t at the age to do so. I definitely think her little aggression is from not being spayed but i just don’t want her to hate being picked up. Yes i know that a rabbits first instinct is to flee when picked up because of prey so i usually only try to hold her when im sitting on my floor with her or on my bed. Do you think maybe shes just the type to not really wanna be picked up? Or should i keep slowly trying to work with her and also see how she is after she is spayed eventually? (btw shes gonna be spayed in May)

Most rabbits don’t like being picked up, so most of us avoid it so that we can have a good bond with them. It’s important to be able to pick your bun up in an emergency, but it’s not a good way to bond with them.

Like you’ve been doing, lie on the floor with her, and give her treats/pets. You can even try not touching her at first, so she gets used to your presence.

Most bunnies don’t like being picked up and held, it’s just in their nature. If she doesn’t like it now, as a baby, she’ll like it even less when she’s older. Some bunnies don’t enjoy being pet either, at least not for a while. It took Asriel months and months of ignoring him and just having him sit near me for him to feel comfortable with pets, and even now two years later he’s still a bit iffy on pets The important thing is to not rush it. Let them do their thing on their terms. If she doesn’t want a pet, don’t force it. Before you go in for a pet, you can see if she’ll allow it. You do this by offering your hand, palm down, and if she lowers her head you can give her a little pet. Do it in small increments though, like 10 seconds each time so she’s not overwhelmed. Also remember, 1.5-2 months is still new for her and no time at all. She’s still probably adjusting. It can take some buns 6 months to a year or more to open up to their hooms
