Hi Binky Bunny world! I am a new bunny mom and am unsure of what I did wrong.

Little background, I have a 2 year old rex named Mitty Bun. I got him as a birthday gift about 3.5 months ago. He had a previous owner who litter box trained him but I do not know much else. He is still in tactic but I am planning on getting him altered.

Mitty likes to nuzzle his face up to mine for kisses, where my nose is near his ears, and he will grind his teeth (pur?). Last night I went to sit up and he scooted closer for more snuggling. I gave him one little kiss between his eyes and as I was backing up he lunged forward and bit my nose, drawing blood. He also did it to my husband a week ago but I thought he just liked me better lol. I am unsure what I did wrong. How do I avoid this happening again? No more face nuzzling? Do I need to be slower when I back up?

Buns are strange creatures. If he’s enjoyed it up until this point, it’s probably nothing you *did* per se, but more in how he perceived you. Bunnies have a blind spot right between their eyes, so sometimes anything that comes in forward towards/away from their blind spot they might perceive as a threat, when obviously it’s not. That’s why a lot of bunny videos teaching you about petting bunnies always suggest starting from the side and making your hand visible in their eye area before stroking across the cheek and down the back. That’s not to say bunnies don’t like being pet/kissed in their blind spot, because I do it to my boys all the time (that’s where they like it best), but sometimes they can just freak themselves out about it.
