Hi all! I’m a new bunny owner and quite new at all things rabbit. I adopted an 8 week old lop bunny and set up a 24 sq ft exercise pen for him. Theres a cage where I placed his litter box and his bowl of pellets and hay. The cage itself has 2 hide always one with a hay feeder and some toys and a grass mat. I’ve been letting him out in my bunnyproofed living room before I go to work and when i get home until bedtime.
This morning I woke up and he was outside the pen!!! Its 30″ tall. I normally put a cloth draped over the places where he can hop on top of the hideaways. I don’t know when he got out but I’m scared if he tries again he’ll hurt himself plus theres was no water/food outside the pen.
He was quite scared of me this morning and seemed to want to hide under my futon…it was quite harrowing trying to get him back into the pen before work.

Any advice…I’m now going to be worried all day about him!
        Thanks!!!

Bunnies are pretty determined once they’ve set their mind to something, and once they’ve done something, they tend to do it again!

Normally a sheet over the top is enough to deter a jumping bunny – was the cloth disturbed at all?

We’ve also had people on here who’s bunnies have managed to squish out between the bars – is that a possibility?

When I got my bunny we had a small cage I had picked up that I attached to an exercise pen. Got quite the surprise his first morning home to find him chilling outside of the pen! Turns out he was smaller than we thought and squeezed through the small opening between the cage where it was attached to the x pen. I honestly wasn’t sure how he’d gotten out until I watched him try to do it again later. Maybe observe him in his pen for a while if you can to try to see where he’s escaping from? I would’ve thought the cloth would have been enough to deter him if he was jumping over.

Bunnies are smart – they are cute little @holes! Mine squeezed under my mom’s coffee table -the opening was maybe 1.5 inches. You might want to check that it’s not squeezing through, but also my baby bun (5 mos old) can jump up on my queen bed which is probably 2.5 feet off the ground.
