  I am sorry if this was asked and answered elsewhere and I tried to search and it’s not enabled. I just had my bun spayed today, she is 5 months old. I picked her up around 5 hours ago and she still isn’t eating anything. She’s just kind of dopey/sleepy. Is this normal? How long before I panic about her not eating? This is my first inside bunny so it’s all new to me.

  I wouldn’t panic just yet. It’s completely normal for her to be dopey, she was anesthetized after all. Spays are much more invasive than neuters, so in general her recovery could a bit longer. Different bunnies react differently to the anesthesia as well. My boy Asriel was dopey for the first day or two after his neuter and Bombur was wide awake in a few hours. So being out of it is totally normal. Just make sure she has pain meds (I hope they sent you home with some) and have pellets/greens/hay readily available to her if she does feel like munching. If it’s been 24 hours and she hasn’t eaten, then worry

  I would also get some critical care if you haven’t already. If she doesn’t start eating you will have to syringe feed her the critical care.

  thank you guys for responding.
  She finally seems to be getting back to normal. She’s had some banana and pear and a bit of hay. Then I gave her a syringe full of critical care and she devoured a baby carrot and some more hay. I don’t normally give her so much sugary stuff, but I was trying to entice her to eat anything. I think I can finally breathe a bit easier, and not be so hovery.

  Glad she started eating. That is perfectly normal. It’s a pretty big surgery, after all. Make sure to keep giving her Critical Care if she’s not eating much hay. And keep a close eye on poops.
