Last night my husband slept out on the couch because I am sick and I was keeping him up with my coughing. Apparently Moonpaw kept jumping onto him and trying to sleep beside him but my husband kept making him get down because he was afraid Moonpaw would pee on him. Moonpaw does pee on the couch (which we stopped by flipping the cushions up when we are not on it) but does that mean he will pee on it if someone was on the couch? I know some people sleep with their bunnies and that bunnies often pee on beds, but does it happen when you are on it?

A bun can very well pre on the bed while the human is in it. It happens here if my bun gets access to my bed.

I had a bun that never peed on the bed, he slept at the foot end. But he never peed on the bed at all regardless of whether I was in it or not.

My bun has stairs I made for her to get on my bed as it’s high up, she has never went pee on my bed, before she was spayed she went pee on the couch but only where I sat. she only did it 2 times, after getting spayed she has never done it, she is 100% litter box trained, which she pretty much trained herself. is your bun neutered?

My bun used to deliberately pee right next to people behind their backs. It was only with people he liked, so it’s hard to interpret his intentions. Pretty unpleasant though!

So I think it depends on the bun and there’s no way to know if your bun will behave other than to allow him into the situation (and possible deal with the consequences). I think your husband did the right thing under the circumstances.

When a bun pees on you, it’s a compliment =D As FlemishDad says, they tend to pee mark people they really like. Which doesn’t make it more pleasant for the hoomin, of course, but the bun sees it as a token of appreciation.

IKEA has washable bed wetting bed sheets that aren’t pricey, I have those under my normal bed sheets in case of accidents, I also have one on my sofa under a pretty piece of fabric. Our member Pink’nwuffy has a sofa cover that she’s bought online for her rabbit, the amazing Olaf. I’ll ask her where she got it.

ETA: I asked pinkn’wuffy about her sofa cover. She says she got hers off Amazon, but that particular sofa cover doesn’t seem to be in stock anymore. A search for sofa covers or couch covers on Amazon will bring a lot of hits though.

I don’t think it matters whether or not a person is on it. Based on personal experience ?

After the first time my bun peed on my bed I got a waterproof mattress cover, but she’s only peed on it on two different occasions. I think it depends on the bun, mine will sleep next to me peacefully. One of the times she peed was right after my friend had stayed over and slept on “her side” of the bed. That time she did pee when I was in the bed, throughout the night she peed on like three different spots. But again, it happens so rarely that I still allow her to sleep with me and after each incident I’ve blocked off her access for a week or two and then we’re back to normal!
