        Hi everyone!

I’m BumbleBunn and I’m so excited to finally be joining the threads. I look forward to learning more and sharing some of what I’ve picked up on the way too.

This is Mar, short for Marshmallow, a 12wk old American Fuzzy Lop (from my own research an assessment). I intend for her to have free roam of the house, but litter training and keeping her out of things has been a bit of a challenge.

I think she is part mountain goat because all she seems to want to do is climb on EVERYTHING. And most recently, chew my carpet. But we have a roomy ex-pen for her and make sure to have her out at least 1-2 hours a day, if not more.

I can say this because I’m a parent, but Mar reminds me of what it’s like to have a toddler and I’ve been doing so much research trying to adjust to her needs and our home. Most of this research has come from helpful experienced owners like you all, so thank you!

I would love to chat with other fuzzy bunn owners!

        Anyway, here’s my girl

          SHE’S SO FLOOFY!!!

I also have a fuzzy lop and I’m fighting a never ending battle against matted fur. I would strongly recommend you spend at least 15 minutes a day brushing her fur so it doesn’t get tangled and turn into a dense mess of fur that has to be cut off.

Marshmallow is a very fitting name!!! she’s adorable! Are her ears usually like that? American fuzzy lops have distinct lop ears. She could be a mix between that and Jersey woolly.

My fuzzy lop didn’t lop until around 5 months and Marshmallow clearly has helicopter ears at the moment.

She is adorable. It is true that some take longer than others for their ears to lop. Some don’t fully lop because they may have a tighter crown than they should but it doesn’t mean they have to be a mix.

I understand the toddler comparison. They definitely keep you on your toes!

                  Thanks Harley&Thumper!
The fluff is amazing!! I have had some trouble with matted fur. I tried to find youtube videos to help me, and it was basically people who use angora fur for yarn. But they pull the hair so much! She started to hate me trying to brush out the matts (as gently as I could), so I gave her a shorter cut to 2 inches, then used a soft bristle baby brush I got from the dollar store and just worked layer by layer with that and cutting out even the smallest of matts. It has really helped and her fur is growing back nicely. I can generally go through it with a wide tooth brush now. She still hates brushings though and has started to nip at me.

Interesting thing I learned about fuzzy bunn hair…..when I get my clothes out of the dryer, it doesn’t stick all over my clothes but turns into small bits of yarn!!!! I had no clue what this was until I saw it in my laundry a couple times, lol.

(I don’t know how to rotate the image, but you get the point lol)

The nipping might be a sign that her hormones are starting to kick in. I would start saving up money for a spay in about 3 months.

She’s definitely a lop. I got her from a holland lop breeder. But the vet thought she might be a lion head. Since she’s so fuzzy and her ears hadn’t lopped yet, I wondered why she was so different from the lops I had researched. So I found the American Fuzzy Lop, and how they were “discovered” through breading holland lops. It’s a recessive gene and someone decided to breed them to form their own breed. Anyway, the ears are definitely a little loppy. I read that they may take some time to lop, especially since the crown of her head is so narrow.

She looked more like a lionhead than a fuzzy lop to me. Maybe even a lionlop.

Lionheads and Lionlops would have a well defined lion main and maybe fuzzy fur all over. Marshmallow is fuzzy all over with no areas that have more fur than others.

I see nothing but American Fuzzy Lop in that cutie. The buck that I sadly lost had a brother in his same litter that was a fuzzy lop. Mar definitely has the Holland lop face and looks like many 12 week old hollands except for the hair and the ears…..yet. You will see lops with more ear control than others but it doesn’t mean they aren’t purebred. The narrow crown is what I was meaning by tight crown. Sometimes they never lop fully but they are still cute!
