Fleas found on bunny?

So my friend brought over her dog Ginger for our sleepover and she has fleas. And we let Ginger ‘say hi’ to Phoebe through cage bars and they touched noses, but then later I found a few fleas on my rabbit. She doesn’t seem to be very uncomfortable and we didn’t notice until several months later. What do people use to cure fleas on their bunnies? Is this a common problem or…

Get yourself a flea comb and start combing, after applying a dose of Advantage II for kittens. Comb every other day to take away any fleas still living, and continue until your bunny is flea free.

DO NOT slack up on combing and treating with Advantage II for at least 3 months. If you let them get entrenched, fleas are a nightmare to get rid of. And Flea induced dermatitis is a nightmare for your bunny.

id just use xeno 450 if i were you (spot on) i understant it aint natural and your against this but id recommend it. as rabbit fleas can bite humans. and from my knowledge fleas can carry diseases. the most common cause of fleas is an infection from wild rabbits. this can be bad news if the wild rabbit the fleas were on had any diseases (such as myxo) as it would spread them to your rabbits too. flea eggs live in the environment, carpets, clothing, etc. i would advise you to use the zeno spot on for your health and your rabbits. as your gonna have difficulty getting rid of them without it. i respect your against non natural but i care for the bun and you health too.

NB: ive had a similar situation with walking dandruff. i couldnt get rid of it and it infected (my parents didnt believe me and a vet appointment was delayed) my hair and to sum it up my hair fell out (from the bites and damage done to my scalp) i was constantly stracthing and ive basically gone pschotic after that incident. every nite i check my buns now to see if the lice returned… rabbits had similar experience they had to get shots of ivermectin from the vet as it was so severe.

trust me if you dont use the zeno spot youll probably go psychotic…. maybe ive got ptsd ? i dunno?

Besides using a flea medication like Advantage or Revolution, you need to frequently vacuum any areas around the bunny. Fleas only stay on the animal sometimes, at other times, they are hiding in carpets, rugs, upholstery, etc.

NEVER use Frontline or any other medication that contains the ingredients Frontline has. Only use Revolution or Advantage, kitten formula.

You still need to use Advantage or Revolution, but there is a natural way that you might trap some of the fleas and it’s a way to monitor if there are any fleas still in the area. Here is an article on how to make a flea trap. This article is obviously directed at dog owners, so disregard the last paragraph about bathing the animal. Rabbits should never be bathed. And make sure your rabbit doesn’t have access to the cord you use for the light on the trap.

I have only found two or three fleas on her here and there… and I just swept and cleaned my bedroom and I changed all of her bedding. I know that Frontline is very bad (on dogs and cats too) and I would never use it. I was wondering if an all natural flea and tick spray would be safe for my bunny? For flea spray there mainly more preventative than a cure. Also I vaguely recal something about tea tree oil being useful for fleas? My dog had some form of ear mite and the oil killed it I’m not sure if the oil is safe for rabbits but from what I know it’s great for repellin insects. I’d ask a vet BEFORE you try it or any products with it in it (I couldn’t see if the spray u wanted had tea tree in it). As tea tree has a stronge smell that’s what makes me wander if it’s safe.
to be safe I’d try the Xeno 450 or 50 (depends on size of yr bun and yes I unstand you don’t want anything not natural) I’m not advertising, I’m just letting you know what I use I use the 450 variant and the walking dandruff has never come back it’s great! the rabbits haven’t had any problems with it

I’m back again! I’m hoping I’m not to late! I fininally found a solution to weather the spray you wanted would safe. Long story short no it won’t be. It contains a lot of toxic oils for bunnys. Hers a list https://smallpetselect.com/the-dangers-of-essential-oils/ . Also tea tree isn’t safe either. Basically all the good oils (that get rid of bugs) you cannot use near rabbits. It’s only herbs that can be used (mainly).

Nb. Maybe I care to much? I dunno I just love buns! But not now I’m going to sleep! I stayed up an extra 2 hrs to check if the stuff was safe. I generally do care!

May I ask for your reasoning regarding the natural intentions? While it’s wonderful to strive for a naturalist route, sometimes it’s best to opt for something more unnatural for your let’s well-being and also ease of access.

Many medications are human-created, but even items like penicillin for example are sourced from mold that comes off of orange peels! You’d be surprised about some sources of medications and the human intervention is simply concentrating it or purifying it. Also, although things may be human created with unnatural chemicals, there can be very safe medications for you and your rabbit.

Do you have a rabbit-experienced vet you can discuss treatments with in person? It is essential to begin flea treatment safely and as soon as possible.

My oldest bunny ended up with fleas in the summer. I took her to my rabbit vet who weighed her and administered the proper flea medication to be sure it was the safest amount for her! I highly suggest that.

Unfortunately no.  Fleas have gotten much harder to kill, and once you’ve got an infestation, it’s hell to get rid of.  Advantage II doesn’t hurt them, and works VERY well.

I tried the natural route, and as a result, I’m still struggling with them.   Bite the bullet and nuke the little buggers from orbit.

Update: I haven’t bought any flea medication because I haven’t found any more fleas on her. Last flea I found was about two weeks ago. I’ve been combing her fur and cleaning the room on a regular basis and I’ve been petting and brushing her and checking her skin, there appears to be a very tiny amount of flea dirt on her backside but I can’t find one flea.
