        Hi everyone!

My rabbit buddy has been seen cleaning before, but is now furiously cleaning his butt. We have been giving him butt baths, (my mom was even though i told her to stop), but his bottom is now wet. He is peeing in and out of the litter box, but mostly out. I want to know if we should take him to the vet, or how I should dry his butt.

          Hi
I’m unsure if you put images or if ifs my tablet nor showing them again. Does the pee have a strong odour or different colour? Did this occur all of a sudden? is the rabbit peeing more often in small amounts? As I’ve had 2 experiences with a situation like this. If your bun is peeing more frequently in small amounts and there’s an odour this is most likely a urinary track infection (UTI) and requires antibiotic from the vet. If your bun has any mobility issues (eg age related, injury, etc) in the back legs (or joint issues such as spay leg) this is more likely to be wet tail. This is were the bun has difficulty moving from the area it has just urinated and the end becomes saturated with pee. This can led to urine scalding. But as you say yr bun is moving I’m thinking a UTI but I would need more info. Note. I’m not a vet but I’m a experienced rabbit owner I hope I helped

I sorted the post, it had a lot of surplus code in it. Looks good now.

It was the right thing to do to give him a butt bath. Something was irritating him down there, hence the furious cleaning. Buns can have butt baths, it’s full baths that should be avoided unless the situation is extreme. Many buns need regular butt baths, and it’s ok as long as you are being gentle and dry the bun properly after with a towel. If the bun lives outdoorsm, it should be blow dried down there on a low temp setting until competely dry, or the bun could catch a cold.

The most common reason for a wet butt is a urinary tract infection. It’s curable with antibiotics. A vet must prescribe the antibiotics. A urinary tract infection means the bun feels like it needs to pee all the time, and tries to urinate frequently. Only very little urine come out at any one time, and the bun can often be seen straining to pee. Because the bun can’t fully control its bladder, the bottom gets soaked with urine. The urine can cause urine scald/ urine burns of the skin. This is why it’s important to give a butt bath. After drying the butt, you can apply a barrier cream, for example plain vaseline, to the downstairs area. This prevents leaking urine from hurting the skin.

Yellow urine is good. Sometimes with a very bad UTI there’s blood in the urine.
