maybe they’ll consider bringing in vaccines. How would have pet bunnies gotten it? It didn’t say if they were indoors but if they were, that’s even scarier

BunnyHouse- It’s super contagious. It can be spread by human or animal feet, birds, bugs, even tires. That’s what makes it such a scary virus.

This is not too far from Boston. I know PA is a ways away from MA, but it’s still too close for comfort. Getting me worried about my monsters.

Oh my gosh…. I’m in Texas but still it’s too close to us. I hope the vets push for vaccines

It’s hard for anyone not to be scared. It’s so contagious. I’m fearful of hay/veggie contamination, though during the last outbreak I messaged Oxbow and they said it would be extremely unlikely for that to happen with hay. But still…..

Ah! Now is not a good time to go to PA to visit family for the holidays with Wick…. it’s about three hours away from Jefferson County.

What are some of your thoughts? I’d be over in PA for multiple days for family holiday celebrations which are exclusively indoors.

                          This is so scary

The report regarding the 40 deaths says the rabbits were housed in pens in a barn. It also said no new rabbits had been introduced in over a year…

So it would have to be tracked by human or some other animal into the barn into their pen. Too bad those poor things lived outside and had to suffer like that

As much as I’m sure you’d love to spend Holidays with Wick. I wouldn’t bring him. Seems too risky to me.

It’s so very sad to think of those poor bunnies.

I agree, even if everyone washed their hands and took off their shoes in the house, they could have still come into contact with the virus and brought it inside and it would be too late.

I wonder if vets are starting new protocols when they see animals in clinics where buns go too since dogs and cats could have the virus on their feet and then track it inside and then a bun comes into contact with it

I hate the government bean counters who refuse to cough up for a vaccine license. IT’S NOT JUST A RABBIT!!! ?

I know….and it’s double frustrating because this is man made!!!!!! So infuriating….. This would never happen with cats or dogs.

                                        Hi,
I’m new to the forum. Have just got my first rabbits. I’m from the uk and was advised by a uk forum to get vaccines done as soon as possible. Most vets do them here but they don’t advertise we have them done or mention it unless we ask. Do you not yet have vaccines for the vhd 2.

The vaccines are not available yet in the USA. And yes, it’s common practice to vaccinate in the UK. Hopefully we get them soon in the US!

PA is too close for comfort to my regular little Lower Hudson Valley New York home….
We really are not that close but not all that far away…. makes me want to scream and cry at the same time. We should have the right to protect our beloved little ones… if there is a Legal Professional Doctor who can be allowed to charge us at least three times the average cost to treat a rabbit than to treat a dog or cat, simply because they call them “Exotic Pets”, then we should legally be given access to the vaccines to keep our “pets” , not livestock, healthy…
