Wood stove pellets

I know having wood stove pellets is ok for litter boxes but Blossom and Thumper aren’t 100% litter trained yet and my dad wants to use the wood stove pellets through out their habitats (we can’t keep up with paper bedding and puppy pads money wise), would that be ok to do?

The bedding may be too hard on their feet and cause sores. Would you be able to lay newspaper under them or ontop of the pellets to help lessen the hardness of them? You might want to try and use plastic sheeting like this ontop of the pellets to help easy the hardness.

I use this for my buns litter box ontop of the pellets and it’s easy to clean. And relatively cheap(go to Joann’s it’s cheaper there). And you can lay ontop throughout their habitats.

Having substrate all over is going to confuse them and make them think their whole area is a toilet. You’d be better off leaving the pellets in the litter tray and just cleaning up any accidents. Having pellets all over wouldn’t be good for their feet – too hard and I can’t see how newspaper on top would lessen the hardness really in any way? Even if it did, it would still be uncomfortable terrain for them. Plus if they pee on top of the newspaper, you have the risk if urine making the ink smudge and ending up all over their feet.

That’s tru. I didn’t think About the ink. I was giving advice as if they didn’t want to do a litter box yet or it was too hard to do that right now.

They have litter trays but Blossom doesn’t use it much and Thumper does and doesn’t use his, one time he’ll use it then go to another litter trayless corner and go there.
