  So my rabbit is already 3 years old and past the alfalfa hay phase. This problem is though, my mom bought alfalfa hay instead of Timothy hay and she doesn’t want to return it. Is it ok for him to finish a 24 oz bag of alfalfa hay or is he prone developing stones from too much calcium. he’s a lion head mix

  I really wouldn’t do the alfalfa hay. If a bunny is trying to gain weight yes, but a healthy bunny no. Only because it’ll be hard for him to switch back to another type of hay. Also the calcium issue. Buns react differently. It’s safe to do, and likely wouldn’t be a big deal for a short time, but again, it just depends on how your bunny reacts to it. If you start seeing chalky urine, I’d stop it.

  You could mix in some of the alfalfa hay with normal grass hay at the same time as you cut back on pellets. It wouldn’t be good for your bun to get alfalfa hay only. It’s too high in calcium and protein. And as A&B syas, it’s often difficult to wean a bun off alfalfa hay because it’s so much richer than normal hay.
  
  Ask your mum to please return it or use it as a treat/hay topper. Properly stored it keeps quite som time.
