Hi! I was wondering how much hay is good for a rabbit to eat each day. I just got her a different brand of hay to try (Oxbow) in Western Timothy and Oat hay. She likes both, and is now eating a bit more hay than usual because it’s more appealing.

        Thanks!

Ideally they should eat a pile that is the same size as their body every day but the more, the better!

Basically they should just always have unlimited access to hay.

Rabbits should have unlimited hay ALWAYS. Look at the taste and texture of the hay. I have been using oxbow orchard grass hay which is the same amount of sweet and soft because they are babies still but once they reach to be an adult age I am thinking about going up 1 sweetness and 1 texture.

She always has hay available, I just switched from Carefresh to Oxbow because she never seemed to eat much of it even though it’s always in her cage. Now that I’ve switched to Oxbow she is excited to eat her hay and eats a lot more.

I give Panda and Fernando two big handfuls of hay, about equivalent to their body size, twice daily in the morning and evening, plus another batch in the vertical feeder on the side of their condo cage. Their enthusiasm varies from batch to batch, though they’re always good about eating it; the current batch of hay is long-cut, with a minimum of dust and dirt, and crunchy in texture, which they seem to especially enjoy. It’s hard for me to tell exactly how much hay they eat daily because I’m always refreshing the pile, but I’ve been doing this for 14+ months now and they definitely seem to be flourishing.

Thanks for the replies everyone She always has access to hay and I just switched her to Oxbow oat hay, before that I was worried she wasn’t eating enough. She seems to be pretty picky.
