This Friday I went to volunteer at the local shelter and pick up some supplies and met a cute bunny that gave my partner and I more licks than either of our two rabbits have combined.

Now I’m going through a small crisis trying to figure out why our rabbits are so indifferent towards  us, once in a while they may approach us for attention, but mostly approach us when we have food or treats. We’ve had them for about a year and try to spend a lot of time on the floor with them, make sure to act softly towards them, and interact with them whenever they seem interested.

I know not all rabbits are cuddlers or lickers but ours seem to be completely indifferent of us. Are we doing something wrong?

I doubt you’re doing anything wrong. Some bunnies are just not particularly affectionate. Both of my rabbits have licked me just a couple of timew and I have had them for two years.

My rabbits approach me for attention but certainly not with as much enthusiasm as when I’ve got treats ?

I’m pretty sure you are not doing anything wrong. At all. A shelter bun is likely to be starved for love and attention. Licks can also be an appeasement signal, some buns will lick strangers as if they want to say: My intentions are friendly, I’m a nice rabbit, please be nice back.

Your two rabbits have each other and don’t need their hoomins for the daily social grooming (they still need brushing during shedding of course, but that’s not the same as social grooming). They dont have to appease you either, because they know you are good and they are in a safe environment.

I’ve had my pair for 2 years and have never recieved a single lick from either of them. Bandit used to lick me but Apollo and Luna just from each other.
