Cocoa has a missing spot of fur on her neck. I had read on multiple rabbit sites that coconut oil is safe and can help with this. I tried it and now the skin is really red. I dont know what to do, please help!

I know coconut oil can be soothing for stings for people… not certain if appropriate to use on a rabbit. Does she have a little rabbit friend? (I see 2 in your photo). Another rabbit is just likely to lick coconut oil off. Do you have plain neosporin? You could use a little of that.
If she is with another rabbit, it could be that it is overgrooming the spot there. This is known as “barbering”. Some rabbits do it to anothers eyes also, until the area is bald and reddened.

Other things that come to mind are: if another rabbit has mounted her as they tend to grab onto the neck fur when they do that. A reaction to vaccination or some other injection. Or it could be something like ringworm.

Yes Cocoa lives with her sister. They have not been vaccinated. I do not have any Neosporin. I read that coconut oil was safe on multiple binkybunny threads

Aside from being red, are there any other qualities to the patch Cocoa? Any flakes, crusting, signs of it getting larger, or her pre-occupying herself with it?

There are a few small scabs on one side. We had a huge ant problem a month or two ago when they were outside. Cocoa got a few on her neck which is where the bald patch is. almost all of them are completely healed. Im not sure if its gotten larger. It was only red when I used coconut oil. This morning it is back to a normal skin color

If it only became red after using the coconut oil then she probably had a reaction to it so I would avoid using it again.

Buttercup developed a bald patch and we decided to treat her for mites just in case and her fur started growing back afterwards. So it could be mites?

Could the mites spread to me or my other pets? How expensive was treatment? How long will it take to treat?

I was planning on bringing Cocoa to the vet on Monday but my dad just saw her and said he will pay for the bills. Should I bring Lily too? Cocoa feels safer when she is there. Btw, Lily is gaining weight now

Mites can spread yes, I don’t know whether they can spread between species but certainly from one bunny to another so if you’re going to treat Cocoa, I’d treat Lily too.

All Buttercup needed was one treatment dose of ivermectin (sp?) I can’t remember how much it cost but I think it was less than £20. I treated Peanut too so the cost was obviously doubled.

Even if you decide not to treat Lily I’d still take her along. Bonded pairs should always travel together wherever possible

Thanks! Cocoa won’t come up to me if I dont have food unless Lily comes first so I will definitely bring her too. Is that an injection or do I have to give it to her with a syringe?

It was just a topical spot on treatment, so you just squeeze a little tube out onto the back of their neck (our vet did it for us)

Has she recently had flea treatment? Magpie got hers and her neck literally burned, she is too sensitive for it

No, they have not had flea treatment
