Hi just looking for some advice if anyone has any experience with this

I was stroking my rabbit this morning and felt a pea sized hard lump in the middle of his back just to the side of his spine which seems to be painless as he wasn’t flinching when I pressed on it.

I’ve booked a vet appointment for tomorrow but I’m just looking for some advice or opinions if anyone has had experience with lumps before or any knowledge on how to identify what it is?

        Thank you

I’m sorry this hasn’t gotten any answers. Bunnies can get lots of different lumps. Here’s an article from the HRS on various skin problems in rabbits: http://rabbit.org/skin-diseases-in-rabbits/ (Scroll down to lumps, bumps, cancer).

Abscesses i e “lumps” filled with thick, toothpaste-like pus, are the most common lumps rabbits get. They need vet attention, so I’m happy to hear you have made an appointment!

Thanks for replying had a look at that website and it was really helpful.

Spoke to the vet and she said it feels like a fluid filled cyst and it seems to be decreasing in size which is good!

Thats great! Hopefully it fully resolves.
Sometimes, they’ll get a sterile abscess form but that usually after injections of some sort.
My lop had some smallish, hard lumps but this was old scar tissue.

Oh really I had no idea! He just recently had his RHD1 vaccine but I didn’t think it had anything to do with that just because I wasn’t sure it was the exact place where he was injected I thought that that was further up by his neck. Maybe it was down to that but I’m glad it’s going down in size anyway

That’s a possibility then. The vaccine is given subcutaneously and the liquid can move. What brand vaccine was it? Ive had mine have some skin reactions to RHD1 vaccine before.

I’m not too sure of the brand it was given at Vets4Pets who are part of Pets at Home in the U.K. He has his RHD2 vaccine next week so I will mention it to the vet then and see what they think. I wasn’t even aware they could have a reaction like that so it’s nice to get some reassurance

In the UK I’m thinking you probably got the Nobivac myxo-RHD (that protects both from myxomatosis and RVHD1). A local swelling around the injection site is listed as a common side effect:

                      “A transient temperature increase of 1 – 2° C can commonly occur. A small, non-painful swelling
(maximum 2 cm diameter) at the injection site is commonly observed within the first two weeks after
vaccination. The swelling will resolve completely by 3 weeks after vaccination”

Common means more than 1 but less than 10 rabbits per 100 rabbits experience this side effect.
