I was thinking of giving pine cones to my rabbit but then i remembered that he normally swallowed  his toys instead of leaving a mess :/ Would him eating a pine cone cause a blockage?? Also do you guys have any other suggestions for toys other than grass mats and wood toys?

They’re safe to throw around and stuff but I don’t know how safe it would be if he ate a lot. You could try willow toys, apple/blackcurrant/raspberry sticks, grassy toys such as balls etc.

If you have access to trees that are pesricide free, apple and willow and hazel and rowan are safe and often highly appreciated. I’d not let a bun eat a pine cone, but they are good for playing with. You’d have to observe, maybe take away when you’re not around to monitor?

I picked up two for Chewie from the ancient pine tree in my parents’ yard. They’re one big, one small, and neither has any seeds left but look otherwise pristine. I soaked them overnight in warm water with vinegar and baking soda, then rinsed and left them to dry. And after all that trouble, the most Chewie has done is nose boop them out of his way. ? I don’t see that chewing them would do any harm if you can be sure they’re “clean”. It would be no different from chewing twigs or sticks, to mind.

Pine cones are fine providing they are the open, brown dried out ones, and not the fresh green ones. I usually give them a soak in hot water and scrub off excess dirt. Then dry them in the sun (they close up a little when soaked and open up again after drying).

Chewie’s did that too. It’s so cool, isn’t it?

Clover LOVED her pine cones.. She’d chew the buds off and then take the cores and fling them all over the place. Sometimes they’d land up on the couch, and she’d be looking around like, “Where did it go?”

My bun loves to play with pinecones! I had them in a paper grocery bag. Over time she pulled them all out and started going inside the bag for fun. I have bits of pinecone bits to sweep up, but that’s easy enough. Will have to go refill the bag soon as she is running low! Maybe they chew the pinecones to get to the pine nuts? Not sure, but my bun loves to tear them up
