At the ER now thankful we have one nearby that’s open at 2am. She’s been acting weird all day and wouldn’t eat her evening pellets

              Thanks for the vibes guys.

They kept her overnight at the hospital, said her temperature was low (99F). I know she got x-rays and gut motility meds. Waiting to hear from the head vet when he gets in… fingers crossed. It was so scary how quickly she went from eating her salad to lethargic and unresponsive.

You guys are the best, vibes seem to be helping!

I got a call from the vet and she is doing a bit better. They were able to warm her up by this morning. I got to stop by on my lunch break and she definitely seemed more with it. I dropped off her stuffy and her favorite hay Still not many poops and she only has a bit of an appetite, so they might keep her another night. I know they’re good with her, but its so sad to see her all stressed out and alone in her vet cage… just want my baby home!

Hey guys sorry to be MIA for a bit.

Thor is home But she’s still pretty out of it. Since being home around noon, she’s nibbled on some hay, got one CC feed and took a few small leafs of lettuce. However, since she got home she will pretty much only sit in one spot looking zonked out. About 7 hours after getting her home, she did pee and I saw 4 poop pellets. That’s something but not enough!

Aside from critical care, she came home with gut motility med Metoclorpamide and pain meds TraMADol. The opioid medication worries me, aren’t some side effects of opioids constipation and nausea? But our vet is very knowledgeable. Has anyone else been given something similar for their buns for pain?

Also yes very concerned because we still don’t know what started this incident!

The first vet we saw in the middle of the night thought it might be her teeth. But our primary veterinarian looked the next day and said he’s sure that’s not the issue. I’m inclined to believe him because he got to look while she was sedated getting an x-ray. Other than that, there have been no changes. No new foods, or things in our house, no big molt…

Ooh I’m late to this, but so glad to read she’s improving!

I did read something from the HRS about Tramadol for buns, found the article:

                                                             http://www.columbusrabbit.org/newsletters/newsvol8issue1.pdf

The article is about 6 years old, so maybe more research has been done since then!

Maybe it has to do with the season? Or something totally unrelated? Any suggestions on her diet or preventative measures would be much appreciated

Vet says they look fine, a little maloclusion in her front teeth, but those are wearing down OK. And no points on the molars that he found…

Did they see much in the x-ray? Gas, or where the food/poop was at the time?

It was so scary how quickly she went from eating her salad to lethargic and unresponsive.

That is so odd. Like she went into shock. Do you get spider or centipedes in the house sometimes?

I suppose some severe gas pain could do it. Were there any greens that were different? Even different brand? Or did she happen to scarf them down faster?
I agree about moult theory also. Perhaps she is coming into a big moult. Did she do that this time last year?

Hm, well last year we attributed it to a heavy molt. But right now she’s not shedding heavily, in fact she just finished an epic molt. I suppose it could always be down to hair ingestion, she always seems to have at least one shed line going

She actually seems to get more active as the season is colder, we’ve been seeing tons of binkies and zoomies lately

The shock theory sounds most plausible actually, the emergency vet said she was in shock, and they treated her for toxins as soon as she got in. We do get spiders occasionally, but we’re in the northern US so not much too dangerous (I think). I wonder if she just got into something that we didn’t notice?

Ugh, stressful! But I’m sooo happy she’s feeling better now. I just saw a few binkies and now she’s trying to destroy the grass mat I put up to stop her chewing on the baseboards
