Earier this evening, I took Rumball in to see the vet as we have a holiday weekend coming up and he hadn’t shown great improvement from pain & urinary issue I’d been medicating him for this past week. So I brought his recheck appointment forward by 4 days.

However, when I got him out on to the exam table, he just lay on his side and wasn’t able to stand at all. He’d gone almost floppy. The vet was pretty concern right away, & checked his heart. It was slow. Unusual for a rabbit and particulary one at the vet.  While I was expecting to just take him in and perhaps start on a different antibiotic, it quickly became clear this visit was to be his last.  The vet gave him a sedative and then he was put to sleep. Im grateful that it was a very gentle process for Rumball. I would have like to have him quietly go off to sleep at home, but this was how it was to be.

Rumball was 7 weeks shy of his 12th Birthday. <3.. He had "a good innings" as they say.

Binky Free, Dearest Rumball. I thought you such a funny looking fellow when you first came to live with me, your 2nd home. You quickly endeared yourself to me. You were a “no touchies” bunny at first but then allowed cheek and head pets and shoulder rubs, so long as you weren’t being picked up!.. When your sight and hearing gradually went & your body had aged, you trusted to allow me to hold & cuddle you  – to hopefully give you some comfort. I hope it did soothe your aches some. It certainly helped my heart to be able to hold you near.   Will miss you, BumBum.  Give kisses to Jersey for me. <3

Oh, Kate……I’m so very sorry for your loss and myself very saddened to see this.

Little Rumball. One of my fave little BB bunnies. I’ve “known” him a long time. He reminded me so much of my Bindi.

I’m so glad he passed quietly after living such a wonderful life  with you.

My biggest ((((Hugs))) to you. I’m always here if you need a shoulder.

(((((Binky Free Rumball))))))) You are healthy and whole now. And always loved.

I’m so sorry for you loss.

His passing seems to have been peaceful, and knowing the moments approaching were filled with your love. What a wonderful life rumball had.

                Binky free, dear Rumball.

I’m so sorry for your loss Kate, Rumball was a beautiful bun and had such a wonderful life. It sounds like it was simply his time to go. Never easy by any means, but as you said, 12 years is a wonderful life for a bun.

I hope Ailis is coping ok without him.

Rumball had a good, long life and he went peacefully. There’s nothing more a bunny (or human for that matter) could wish for. But a bunny lost always leaves a hole in your heart, and grief must have its time.

Binky free, sweet and beautiful Rumball. You are with Bam and Clover now.

I’m so sorry JG. Rumball definitely had a wonderful life because his life was with you. I agree, it does sound like it was just his time. I know that doesn’t make it any easier, but take comfort in knowing he passed peacefully and feeling loved. We will definitely miss Rumball around here. We have known him for “forever” and he was definitely a BB favorite.

It IS a shame that bunnies aren’t immortal. They live forever in our hearts, but it’s not quite the same, I realize.
So here’s me, raising the proverbial glass, to eternal love. (((Binky free, Rumball.))) And xoxo to you, Kate.

The amount of trust he gave you was just amazing, allowing you to comfort him while he was getting old and frail. He felt loved and cared for, and I’m happy for him that he found his way into your life. It’s so painful that rabbits have to leave our lives so soon: it always feels like too soon, even when they’re old and gray. Binky free sweet Rumball!

I am so sorry Jerseygirl.  A beautifully written goodbye.  I’m in tears.  Rumball was such a handsome boy.  And wow — 13.  What a wonderful long life he had with a patient and caring human companion who let him be who he was – which I have no doubt allowed him to be able to trust and lean on you as he declined, and have comfort during  the peaceful transition full of love.  He can now Binky-Free from all his ailments.

                                                  Binky Free Rumball.   Hugs JG.

                                                          Dear Rumball..  xx

Ailís seems be coping well but definitely seeks out the pets when I go in the room. I’d like to bring her out more into living area,. Hunter (the dog) doesn’t live up to his name and is pretty good around them. He mopes that they’re getting my attention. I’d be more worried about Ailís nipping him if she felt it necessary.
