I came home after classes today to find Julie lounging in the litter tray. Normally, Jake and Julie both run over when the door opens for a treat. When julie didnt, I knew something was wrong. Jake happily took his treat and happily munched on some romaine while I checked out Julie. She was acting lethargic and stance. Later I found a small funsize Hershey bar wrapper…the chocolate was eaten. I panicked a little but knew I had to remain calm. I syringe fed her some water and mashed pellets and gave her 0.3 gas drops. Now, we are at the emergency vet.

We have been waiting a long time (3hrs) but I’m taking that as a good sign since in human ERs, the longer you wait…the less serious your condition is. Jake is here to support her and is happily munching on hay. Julie hasn’t eaten anything apart from some of the syringed food. She hasn’t pooped either and the vet says her belly feels a little bloated so they’re going to do a scan. She is moving around a little more but not willingly
        Taking food and no poops.

If anyone is up, please send some positive thoughts our way.

Also, I have no idea where the chocolate came from. My guess is that she somehow jumped on top of a bookshelf neither of them ever have before and somehow found some easter candy or something…
They’ll be in an xpen until I rescan the apartment for potential hazards.

Update: Julie ate a piece of hay! The vet is getting her a pain shot, some stomach medicine, and some fluids.

Aw hope she’s ok, at least you got her to the vet as soon as you realised she was ill. Sending positive vibes her way.

                  Great update:

Julie pooped last night and took her pain meds like a (squirmy) champ. She was much more energetic this morning and ran for her morning pellets with Jake.

I know to a lot of people, it may have seem like I overreacted but it was SO SCARY to pick her up and have her feel all limp. Shes normally so energetic and crazy and likes to (literally) push me around with her nose. I’m SO HAPPY to see her acting more like herself this morning.

Many thanks for all your love & support. Ill post another update soon.

                      Glad she is feeling better!

I totally get how you feel. Thor’s given me two scares like that, and both times it came on so fast and it was sooo scary to see her not acting like herself.

                      Go Julie!

We know how fast they can go down hill, so I don’t think of it as overreaction at all.
Glad to hear she’s doing better.

Knowing hiw toxic chocolate is to rabbits and knowing how quickly they can go downhill, I don’t think you overreacted at all. I’m so glad she’s okay

Sorry I’m late to this. BB hasn’t loaded these past couple of days. I’m glad to hear she’s mending. All’s well that ends well is a real treat to a bunny parent
