So I feel a little silly posting this, but also I felt like I should.

I’ve been fostering a disabled rabbit this week for the shelter that I adopted Mellie from, as the guy who runs it was away. His daughter was minding the other buns, but this bun (Magoo) was very ill with liver disease and it had pressed on his spine, so as he needed special care, I was asked to foster him.

He was a complete sweetheart and was so calm and good with daily bum baths and medicines and creams etc. I took him to the vet for his weekly check-up yesterday and it looked like he was improving and we were hopeful that if we could solve the underlying issues he could get back some mobility and get back to living a happy life.

Unfortunately at 5.30 this morning when I went to give him his medicine, he was gone. I had checked on him at 11pm before I went to bed and he seemed happy, munching away on cabbage and accepting headrubs.

I know he was sick, and he was only with me for a week, so I am not distraught, but I am sad. I had really hoped he would have a good ending, and I really was shocked to find he had passed this morning.

I drove him to the vets at 7am when they opened, and they will do a post-mortem so we will know what was going on, but for now I just felt the need to acknowledge him. Binky free Magoo.

Bless you, Tony’s Mum, for taking care of Magoo. Do not feel silly about sharing your story. It doesn’t matter that you only had him for him for a short time. He crept into your heart and made a home there, like all these bunnies do.

            Sleep tight Magoo
            xx

Thanks guys <3 I just didn’t like the thought of him passing without some sort of acknowledgement, and this felt like a good place to be able to honour him.

GJ- he wasn’t little at all, he was HUGE my sister was afraid of him! He was a Giant Chinchilla, and I was so afraid for the first few days that I would hurt or annoy him and he would nip me with his huge teeth, but he didn’t, he was as good as gold. I just hope he was happy and comfortable with me in his last days. I feel terrible.

Binky free, Magoo. If nothing else we can be glad he was in a loving home before it was his time to go. I think it is important that you posted about him because so many fosters go overlooked or, like in Magoo’s case, they weren’t there long but left a lasting impression. Thank you for taking him into your heart.

Yes, I agree. So wonderful you acknowledged him. Even more wonderful you took special care of him, and like was mentioned, he was in a loving home with you his last week. If only life were perfect and we could acknowledge them all. Thank you for doing all of the above.

No domestic bun should pass without someone acknowledging it or it being remembered. Binky free Magoo.

(Magoo is a GREAT name for a bunny.)

So sad to hear about Magoo. So wonderful you were able to care for a very poorly bunny even if just for a short time. So so sad.

Pinknfwuffy, that was exactly my thoughts. He didn’t have a permanent home or people to mourn for him, and I didn’t just want him to be overlooked and forgotten. I agree with Bladesmith that all binky buns deserve acknowledgement.

                          Thank you everyone x

I’m so sorry to hear about Magoo. I think it’s lovely that we are able to acknowledge him here so he won’t be forgotten. I don’t think any animal should pass w/o someone to express their sadness and to wish them a happy journey over rainbow bridge. I’m sure I’m not the only one that wishes we could have known him a little more. Binky on Magoo. I hope you are able to enjoy good health and plenty of treats with the other bridge bunnies for company sweetheart xxx

We discovered in his post mortem that he had a small mass in.his bowel that was bleeding and pressing in his spine. It wasn’t picked up during scans somehow.

At least you know now. It’s lovely of you to make an RB post for him. I’m glad he got to spend his last week in your care.
