I am having the worst luck lately w my girls. This time Siobhan is very sick. I just rushed her to the emergency vet. She’s staying overnight. They are worried that she has pneumonia because her lungs sound wet. I swear she was perfect up until 3 hours ago. She was playing, eating, drinking, pooping, peeing. Went up to check on her and she was nowhere to be found. Finally I found her under my nightstand, laying on top of a vent. She wouldn’t move, and had brown mucus all over her nose and mouth. I took her temp and it was very low. She was also mouth breathing. Her lips and gums were very pale. There’s absolutely nothing for her to get into. I looked everywhere. The last thing I saw her do was eat a few pellets.
I put a towel on a hot water bottle then put her on the towel. Her temp had gone up a little by the time we got her to the vet. They put her on oxygen and are keeping her overnight. I’m so worried. I just don’t get it. It wasn’t gradual. It was very sudden. She hasn’t been sneezing at all. And absolutely no discharge until a few hours ago. I just want her to be ok.

It sounds like she may have choked on some pellets, but thankfully was able to get it out (brown mucus?). The whiteness could be from lack of oxygen during the time period. Thats just a guess, but whatever the cause, it’s good that she’s in professional hands.

Sending you and her healing and strong vibes!

Really glad you did all the right things upon finding her like that. The docs will hopefully help her the rest of the way now. Poor darling, and poor you too. Sending hugs and healing vibes. ((((((Siobhan))))))

Siobhan passed last night. The vet said it was her heart. It was quick and she didn’t suffer. I’m so devastated right now. She’s the bunny in my avi. I loved her like she was my child. I don’t know what to do. I keep thinking I’m going to see her at the top of the stairs Everytime I come up. She had her own room but pretty much had the second floor to herself. She was such a sweet girl. My husband is a mess too. He got so attached.
Apparently she had a heart problem that we knew nothing about. And she had pneumonia. She showed abs7zero signs of being ill. I know they hide their illnesses but this was just so sudden. Totally happy and playful and then 3 hours later, struggling to breathe. They put her in a box w a blanket and decorated it. We brought her home because we wanted to bury her but now we are considering cremation. What would you all do? This is just so hard.

I’m so, so sorry for your loss, it broke my heart reading this.
Far too many animals especially rabbits are not given love in their lives, so take comfort knowing you gave her a loving home with everything she needed. You made each other happy. I know it’s so hard at the moment for you both.
                      Sending you my love.

                      Binky free beautiful girl.

I’m so sorry for your loss. They are such fragile creatures

Some people bury their bunny and plant something above it in memory of, while others cremate and keep the ashes in an urn with a framed photo of the bunny beside it as a dedication. I think both are pretty sweet ways of remembering them.

If you feel like doing so or haven’t already, you could post in the Rainbow Bridge forum as a way to tell everyone about her life. It may help sort your feelings out.

I’m so very sorry you lost Siobhan.

I had my bunny Yohio cremated. He’s on a shelf in my hall next to the ashes of my bridge dog Nala.
