I had to pick up my 2 year old Rex, Gizmo and he struggled in my arms. Nothing new, he was kicking like crazy but I got him calm and put him down. Now I just noticed that a nail on one of his back paws is slightly bent/loose. He’s hopping and running normally, doesn’t seem to be in any pain. There’s no blood. I checked the paw. The nail is loose but otherwise seems fine. I don’t want to cut it as it’s way past the quick and doesn’t seem to be bothering him, but I’m afraid it might snap off or something while he’s running around. What should I do?

If it’s wiggling and not causing him any pain at the moment, then it may be an old injury. Sometimes bunnies will catch their nail on the carpet, for example, and crack it (rather than tearing it off). The nail remains intact, but it slowly “dies” and then this outer sheath falls off. When this happens, there is open a little nub on the end of the toe that contains the quick that had receded back.
