Hello, fellow people of the binkybunny forum. I have a rabbit who is shy and affectionate. However, I have a problem I need to address. My rabbit shakes the bars to her cage for a good 3 minutes, then she stops. It is usually at night though. Before you make assumptions, I do let her out for almost 9 hours of playtime during the day currently. And when I attend school when summer ends, I let her out for 5 hours a day. I also have a large area rug in my room so she can exercise and binky to her heart’s content. When the night rolls around, I stick her back in her x-pen at around 9 PM she is usually in it if not she will go back in for hay or water eventually. The x-pen is 4 feet by 4 feet, so it is suitable for her. I make sure she has toys at least 3, and she has hay and water to last her til’ the morning. When it rolls around 12 AM I sometimes wake up to her shaking her x-pen bars. I sometimes let her out for 20 minutes then I lock her back in then she is okay. I get annoyed at her for doing this because I want to sleep. Does anyone have any tips on how to neutralize her habit? I can’t free roam her for personal reasons, but I am open to any other suggestion.

I personally have never had this problem, but I know how my bunny thinks. So what I suggest is to not let her out or acknowledge her when she rattles the bars. She now has a routine, she shakes and you come and let her out. If you don’t let her out she shouldn’t shake the cage once she knows it wont work, this will take some time. But this is just how my rabbit would behave and I know it might not work for you.

I wish you the best of luck.

Unfortunately you’re training her that when she shakes the bars, she gets what she wants.

You could try putting cardboard around the bars for her to chew that instead.

You could also try extending the x pen, but I imagine it’s seeing the rest of the room that she could be in is what’s bugging her, so I doubt that will help.

You could also wear ear plugs… since she gets 9 hours to free roam a day, I don’t think you need to feel guilty!
