I bought some rosewood naturals salad because I’ve seen it in videos by other bunny owners and they love it and all that but it appears there are corn kernels? Or things that look like corn in here and I don’t even see corn on the ingredients list other that cornflowers and those are the blue flower petals in here haha

Is this safe for her to eat? Like what even…

That certainly looks like corn, but weird that it isn’t on the ingredients list.

I bought a rosewood ‘fruit salad’ recently, and then didn’t feed it to the bunnies because it contained dried pieces of leek and potato! So I’m not 100% confident in their expertise.

That said, the ingredients on that look fine, it’s just strange that there’s extras.

Corn is on the ingredient list. Maize is the same thing as corn. Your second picture looks like burst maize. I see that there are also maize flakes in the product.

Oh, I never heard of maize before. I’m assuming burst maize is still not digestible for a bunny?

              —-update:

Maize is the british word for corn. The more you know haha This is embarrassing since I’m engaged to a brit >.> Thanks again!

                Well I’m British so…. hahaha.

I’ve heard of maize, but didn’t know what it actually was, thought it was a a grain of some sort. We would just call that corn to be honest.

Oh. Google was just like “british term for corn” hahaha
Oh well I haven’t fed her any. I just avoid those bits.

Corn is the British term, I thought maize was an American term.

It is bunny safe in a way, as in it isn’t toxic, but its very high calorie so not an ideal bunny food even as a treat, there are many better treats out there for a bun to enjoy, ditto the maize/corn flakes. (which are crushed corn kernels, not to be confused with the cornflakes as in breakfast cereal which are also made from maize/corn, but much more processed and loads of added other ingredients such as sugar and salt, both very bad for bunnies). Oat flakes and wheat flakes are the first two ingredients and they are also very high calorie to a bunny. My feeling is this is more like buying a bunny a bag of sweets than a healthy treet, bun may well like it but best fed sparingly to keep bun slim n trim!

I know that the actual corn itself is fine but they aren’t able to digest the corn kernals (same as us but we can still easily pass it through) The shell of the corn kernals can literally cause GI stasis so I don’t know why they put them in bunny salads but meh

Tbh I don’t think Rosewood are particularly good in regards to providing quality products for bunnies – the toys are atrocious!

They put all kinds of bad stuff in rabbit food/treats. The muesli feed I gave Bam when I first had him was full of corn (sans shells), carob pieces and sunflower seeds. There was pellets in it too and whole oats, but it was NOT good food for him. He loved it though ?

There are other products marketed for rabbits that rabbits should never have, like yoghurt drops and seed bars with honey. And dried corn on the cob.

I think awareness is on the rise among rabbit owners though. And if people stop buying the products there’s no profit in making them, so that will bring on a change for the better.

Yeah, I don’t buy any of that stuff from the store. Yogurt drops, snacks etc. I just do a lot of research and buy things I know for a fact are already safe. And I’m really glad awareness is spreading because maybe one day there won’t be bunnies in tiny cages eating nothing but pellets all day every day and stores will sell safe treats and toys. The fact more and more bunny owners are starting youtube channels about their rabbits and educating others is really nice. LennonTheBunny has over 100,000 subscribers

And yes, it’s seriously sad how many companies still don’t care about the ingredients they put in foods, treats and toys that are marketed toward rabbits. I was out with a friend one day, recently and she took me to this really specialized pet food/supply store and she had been telling me about this place for quite some time. I walk in and ask them for the rabbit aisle or section and it was literally a sad tiny section of a corner shelf and their stock was only vitacraft! Some of the most horrible of rabbit products… but what was even sadder was when I kindly mentioned to the employees that rabbits are really not supposed to eat yogurt drops, fruits and seeds mixes and corn they truly acknowledged that they had no idea! Needless to say, I bought nothing… even Petco and Petsmart had more healthy real options…

Yeah, even those bunny box subscription things include some stuff that isn’t safe. Including this brand I just posted about haha
